Himiway’s 2023: Anticipating Exciting Releases and Innovations for E-Bike Enthusiasts

Everyone has a reason to move from place to place. From that individual doing a 9-5 to a mother who is trying to shed some postpartum weight. Or perhaps a high school kid who wants to get early to school or a delivery guy who doesn’t want to disappoint his customer.

Indeed, there are different modes of transportation all over the world. But in recent times, the popularity of e-bikes seems to be on the rise. You realize this more than ever before when you see a lot of e-bikers on the street.

The reasons for this are not farfetched; more people have accepted e-bikes as a mode of transportation, fitness, and even pleasure. Electric bikes have become so popular that you find facilities and lanes designated for e-bikes in countries over the world.

It makes sense that people are beginning to tilt towards the use of e-bikes because not everyone can afford a car. And those that have cars may not want to drive everywhere.

Furthermore, e-bikes have proven to be climate-friendly because they don’t emit harmful gases like other forms of transportation. They do not consume fossil fuels and their carbon footprint on the earth is at the barest minimum.

Also, to a very large extent, they help to cut down on expenses because their cost of maintenance is relatively cheap. Further, there’s no need to buy fuel. All you need is your portable or solar charger, which you’ll need if you are covering many miles.

Undoubtedly, e-bikes have come to stay and stay for a long period because the world is increasingly becoming an e-world. Any innovation that makes things easier for people is a welcome development.

Himiway has built a strong reputation for coming up with amazing e-bikes that suit the needs of customers, and this year is not any different. Himiway has in store for the e-bike industry amazing innovations that will make e-biking a lot easier.

This article focuses on Himiway’s upcoming e-bike releases in 2023 and all you need to know about them. If you are at a crossroads as to what types of e-bike you should invest in, then you are at the right place. A lot of light will be shed on this upcoming release and will likely inform your eventual decision.

Himiway’s Expertise in Long-Range and Fat-Tire E-bikes

It’s no news that Himiway has built for itself a strong niche in excellent long-range and fat-tire e-bikes, which are specs that are in high demand in the e-bike industry. Time after time, Himiway has proven to be great with its long-range and fat-tire electric bikes. Why don’t we consider some of these bikes and their specifications?

Long Range Fat Tire Electric Bike – Himiway Cruiser

Indeed, Himiway didn’t hold back in coming up with this beauty. A long range and fat tires are not the only exceptional qualities this e-bike has to boast of. It has a lot more to offer. The design of this e-bike brings a perfect balance between adaptability to complex cycling conditions and great comfort.

It comes with an 840Wh Samsung battery capacity and a 750W motor power. With the Himiway Cruiser, a 60-mile single range is guaranteed.  It also comes with 26 inches fat tires that give exceptional grip and mechanical stability. It has an additional high-quality 6061 aluminum frame, which gives the bike top-notch durability.

Undoubtedly, the Himiway Cruiser passes as one of the most professional and cost-effective long-range, fat-tire electric bikes on the block. It is indeed a worthy investment.

All Terrain Fat Tire E-Bike – Himiway Zebra

If you thought nothing else could catch your attention apart from the Himiway Cruiser, you might need a rethink. The Himiway Zebra is believed to be an upgrade on the Himiway Cruiser and comes with a 750W gear hub motor and improved inner ring. It also sports a 26-inch Kenda fat tire that helps with its traction, and prevents slipping and being stuck in mud or snow, as the case may be.

The Himiway Zebra also comes with a removable 960Wh Samsung/LG battery capacity and 52 5000mAh cells. When it comes to its riding mileage, the Zebra effortlessly offers 80 miles with pedal assist and 60  miles with electric power. If you are thinking of upgrading, then the Himiway Zebra is your best bet.

Step Through Fat Tire E-Bike- Himiway Step-Thru

When it comes to e-bike designs, Himiway always ensures sophistication, elegance, and versatility are strong points. This e-bike with a low-step design provides convenience and great comfort while sustaining all the great features present in the Himiway Cruiser.

It comes with 26 inches fat tires that give some great skid resistance and anti-vibration ability. If you are big on comfort and convenience coupled with the excellence of Himiway, this e-bike is a great option for you.

Other great bikes under the Long-range/fat-tire category include but are not limited to:

  • The Himiway Big Dog
  • Himiway Cobra
  • Himiway Escape Pro

No doubt, Himiway has proven that it has a lot to offer when it comes to long-range fat tire e-bikes.

Advantages of Long-Range, Fat Tire Electric Bikes

You’ve probably seen some of the benefits of this category of ebikes from the examples listed above. However, let’s consider some of these advantages:

  • Increased stability
  • Less rolling resistance
  • Perform excellently on different types of terrain
  • Offer great speed
  • Versatile
  • Great at absorbing shock

Possible Improvement on the Features of the Himiway E-Bikes

When it comes to improvements on features, the Himiway brand is quite proactive and is probably working on improvements as you’re reading this. I’m guessing that Himiway is always improving the battery life of its e-bikes considering the increasing demand for them. This means more people who need to cover more distance will be able to do so.

Knowing that comfort and convenience are core values of Himiway, more features that ensure comfort will likely be included in future designs.

New Himiway Electric Bike Models

Himiway never stops blowing our minds with mouth-watering e-bike models. Indeed, the beauty of innovation is not necessarily coming up with something novel, but building on and improving on what already exists.

Himiway plans to have more bikes in store for us in 2023. At this point, I believe we can make some predictions as to what we want to see in the incoming models.

Quick question: if you had the power to determine what the next set of Himiway e-bike models would look like, what would you integrate into the designs?

There are some possible design changes that Himiway can incorporate that may make its models more modern and sleeker. This is not to say the designs have not been amazing so far, but I think some slight improvements may help with the general appeal.

Streamlined frame and handlebars:  Streamlined frames and handlebars can no doubt help to add to the sleekness of Himiway e-bikes as opposed to chunky frames. As time goes on, people generally tend to tilt towards more streamlined and comfortable models.

New fat tire: New fat tires can also be introduced to ensure more durability and stability for e-bike riders.

New color options: New and more color options can also be a great addition to suit the needs of more people.

Additional items: This is, of course, more tilted to a rider’s pleasure.  It wouldn’t be a bad idea if items like helmets, jackets, and gloves could come together with the new bike models. Thus, each model would have its custom helmet and jacket, among other things. That way, e-bikers don’t have to get those items from other brands. They can be fully Himiway-clad.

Furthermore, other interesting features that can be added to the Himiway collection include an upgraded motor and battery capacity for more longevity and durability.

Also, considering the constant need for technological advancement, smart technology, for instance, a GPS tracker and Bluetooth will improve the outlook of their e-bikes. Finally, an improved sensor and braking system is a welcome addition considering the different terrains and adventures that riders are eager to embark on.

Conclusion

Indeed, Himiway has shown that it has a wide variety of options to offer when it comes to electric bikes.

The brand seems to have a constant and relentless dedication to ensuring that customers are able to enjoy an amazing e-bike experience and meet up with the constant technological wave hitting society. There are many options for you based on your particular needs, so why haven’t you gotten that e-bike?

21 Best Electric Fat Bikes: USA-Made Brands?

0
Rad Rover Plus Electric Fat Bike from Rad Power Bikes
Rad Rover Plus Electric Fat Bike from Rad Power Bikes

With so many fat tire electric bikes coming on the market in the United States, it’s become much harder to decide which brand and model to buy. Further, because you have to look up each brand and sort through all of their e-bike models to find the fat tire bikes, it’s even more challenging to compare them.

And, once you do this, you’ll be left with wondering which USA models are the best.

Overall, the best electric fat bikes in the USA have 4” to 5” wide fat tires, a front suspension, a 500W to 750W motor, and a minimum 48 Volt battery. They should be able to ride relatively smoothly over off-road terrain.

What you need to know first is that most fat e-bikes are not 100% USA-made. Parts are typically sourced from overseas and ebikes are typically only partially assembled in US warehouses.

Additionally, each fat tire electric bike may or may not check off your desired features. This article includes a curated and researched list of the USA brands, their models, cost, warranty, and purchase benefits. Plus, you’ll discover the most important features of each model, helping you decide whether it’s the best electric fat bike for you.

Further, I’ll let you know about product return guarantees, trial periods, and warranties so that you know exactly what to expect when you buy one.

Now that you’ve checked out the list above, continue reading below and I’ll answer your questions about each electric fat bike model, its brand, and why you might choose one over the other.

Ready to find out all about the best electric fat bikes? Watch the video overview first:

1. RadRover Plus – Rad Power Bikes

Always one of my personal favorite e-bike brands, Rad Power Bikes includes wider-than-normal tires on most of their models. But their flagship electric fat bike model, the RadRover, has been given even greater refinements to become the RadRover Plus.

Rad Rover Plus Electric Fat Bike from Rad Power Bikes
RadRover Plus Electric Fat Bike from Rad Power Bikes

Features and Benefits

With new hydraulic disc brakes for greater stopping power (super important on a fat tire e-bike), 26” X 4” puncture-resistant tires, a custom 750W geared hub motor, and a 48V, 14 Ah lithium-ion battery, you’ll have plenty of power to get over any rough terrain.

Further, the improvements such as automatic lights, sleek covers for wire cables, and preloaded suspension, will get you up to speed faster, let you ride in a wider range of terrains, and enjoy a smooth ride.

Best Feature

Although the RadRover Plus has so many new and refined features, I think that the most noticeable one is the semi-integrated battery.

They’ve designed it so it blends into the bike’s frame seamlessly for a super sleek design. But it’s also easier to remove with only one hand, making it easy to stop anywhere and take your battery with you.

Check out this model and price!

2. RadRunner 3 Plus – Rad Power Bikes

Now with 4” wide tires, it deserves even more attention. Plus, it meets a completely different need than the RadRover… it’s a utility e-bike with an optional passenger seat!

RadRunner Plus E-Bike showing back seat option
RadRunner Plus has options for a back seat or full cargo rack

Features and Benefits

The step-thru design still boasts a 750W rear hub motor and powerful 48V battery, as well as 4.0” wide tires and hydraulic brakes. The long-range battery will take you up to 45 miles with the average use of the electric motor assist.

Just a thought… I have a RadMini that has the same battery capacity but can get well over 45 miles by staying on the lowest pedal assist levels (1-3). However, I’m a small adult and more weight can drain the battery faster.

Best Feature

You can easily have your adult friend or grownup child ride on the back. They’ll have to hold onto you but they can sit comfortably on the extra-wide platform seat and rest their feet!

This easy on-and-off makes it super ideal for shopping and running errands.

Check out this model and price!

3. HyperScorpion – Juiced Bikes

Another Juiced Bikes model that’ll take you up to 70+ miles on a single battery charge, the HyperScorpion has 4.25” wide tires on its 20” wheels.

Juiced Bikes Hyperscorpion in silver
The Hyperscorpion uses both a cadence and a torque sensor!

Features and Benefits

Pegged as a moped-style e-bike, it doesn’t fall short on what makes it an amazing fat bike. Not only can you throttle without pedaling, but it also has both a torque and a cadence sensor, hydraulic disc brakes, dual suspension (both front and rear), and a powerful 1000W retro blade motor.

Thus, it can zoom down the streets at up to 30 miles per hour or tackle off-road terrain easily.

Best Feature

The dual suspension really is the most impressive benefit of this electric fat bike… because it’s not an electric mountain bike but rather a moped-style e-bike with only 20” wheels!

Check out this e-bike on the Juiced Bikes website!

4. RipCurrent S – Juiced Bikes

With a 52V battery, this upgraded Juiced Bikes favorite has power and torque that lives up to its name.

Juiced Bikes Ripcurrent S Step-Through
Juiced’s RipCurrent S comes in a step-through model as well!

Features and Benefits

With a 1000W hub motor and both cadence and torque pedal assist, you can ride anywhere, on-road or off-road! As if that weren’t enough, this Class 3 e-bike gives you powerful motor assist right up to 28mph, a 70+ mile range, and a thumb throttle.

Plus, you’ll get hydraulic disc brakes, a 9-speed transmission, and a front air suspension. You can also set your own parameters in the advanced display and get real-time metrics.

Best Feature

Although it’s a toss-up with this powerful fat bike, I’d say the best feature is the “true” knobby 4-inch all-terrain tires. After all, all that power wouldn’t go anywhere without tires that can conquer every rocky bump, dirt, and even sand!

Check out this model and price!

5. EvryJourney Fat Tire – Sixthreezero

What I love about Sixthreezero’s electric fat bikes is that they’re designed for comfort, first and foremost. So, if you’re looking for a comfortable ride that still gets you where you need to go fast, this could be one of the best electric bikes for you.

Sixthreezero EvryJourney Fat Tire E-Bike
The Sixthreezero EvryJourney Fat Tire E-Bike weighs slightly less than other fat bikes

Features and Benefits

The EvryJourney Fat Tire is essentially a hybrid cruiser e-bike perfect for leisurely rides, cruising, and commuting. With a 500W rear hub drive motor plus throttle, you’ll have enough power to get you up to 20mph (but you can still relax while you ride).

The battery will take you 20 miles to 40 miles depending on how much pedal assistance you use. For a cruiser-style e-bike, this should be more than enough.

Plus, Sixthreezero states that “sitting has never been so comfortable”… yes, it’s like sitting on a cloud.

Best Feature

Although this fat tire electric bike doesn’t have as much power as those with 750W motors, the throttle can get you moving fast and give you a break from pedaling if needed.

Check out this model and price.

Not sure of the advantages and disadvantages of a fat tire electric bike? I tell you here!

6. EvryJourney Fat Tire Step-Thru – Sixthreezero

This e-bike is essentially the same as previously mentioned. However, with a low-step frame, nearly every person can fit on this fat tire bike. In fact, it accommodates riders from 5’0” to 6’4”.

Features and Benefits

You’re getting a 500W rear hub motor and simple thumb throttle, just like with the regular frame EvryJourney fat bike.

The main difference is that it has a step-thru frame, making it ultra-easy to get on and off. This is especially important for shorter riders, as it makes it easier to contact the ground at a moment’s notice.

Being a 5’2” woman, I have never regretted owning a smaller e-bike with a step-thru frame. I can quickly jump down off my bike seat and don’t have to swing my leg up and over a tall frame.

Best Feature

You’ve probably guessed that the best feature here is the step-through frame!

Check out this model and price.

7. Hammer Beach & Snow – Ecotric

The name of this fat tire electric bike fits it perfectly. Its sort of retro look will remind you of a powerful motorcycle, but it still maxes out at 20mph.

As its name implies, it’s built to master rugged terrain and loose ground, making it an affordable electric fat bike to ride in the snow or in the sand.

Ecotric Hammer Fat Tire E-Bike
Ecotric Hammer Fat Tire E-Bike

Features and Benefits

A 750W rear hub motor, 48V battery, 26” X 4” fat tires, hydraulic disc brakes, and throttle give you everything you need to ride away on this cool-looking electric bike.

Just note that their size guide doesn’t tell you what size person can ride this bike. However, take caution… the reviewers note that only a tall person can fit on it (over 6’).

Best Feature

Its vintage motorcycle look really makes this model stand out!

Take a look at this model and its price.

8. Fat Tire Portable & Folding -Ecotric

A versatile little fat bike with 20” wheels, it can conquer tough terrain but still let you ride through town to pick up groceries.

Features and Benefits

It has a 500W brushless geared hub rear motor but only a 36V, 12Ah lithium-ion battery. This means that you won’t be able to ride quite as far as if you had a 48V, 14Ah battery. But, you still have an average range of 20 miles, which is more than enough for many riders.

Further, this 56-pound e-bike’s speed still tops out at 20mph and you’ll have more than enough power to ride the distance.

Best Feature

Without a doubt, the foldable nature of this fat tire e-bike is what makes it so ideal. It’s easy to throw in the back of a car, bus, or train and ride on rough trails.

Check it out here!

9. Ranger – QuietKat

QuietKat is known for its line of rugged e-bikes. And the Ranger won’t let you down. It’s built to ride smoothly, even when you’re off-roading.

Ranger Fat Tire E-Bike from Quiet Kat
Ranger Fat Tire E-Bike from QuietKat

Features and Benefits

This powerful e-bike comes in 750W and 1000W options and gives you a range of up to 48 miles from just one battery charge. With 26” X 4.5” tires, it can carry a load of up to 325lbs.

It comes with an integrated battery and rear rack so that you can stash your gear during your adventure. Plus, I like that it comes in 3 sizes to fit just about anyone!

Compare QuietKat brand electric bikes to Rad Power Bikes in this review!

Best Feature

This tough e-bike has a lot of great features but having the additional ½ inch wide tires than most fat tire bikes really gives it an edge in riding over rough terrain.

Take a look at this model and its price.

10. Apex– QuietKat

Likely the best fat tire electric bike for hunting and sport as far as power goes, the Apex comes with a 750W or 1000W motor. So, it doesn’t leave any need for speed behind.

Features and Benefits

In addition to a powerful motor, it comes standard with a 4-piston hydraulic disc brake system, 48V 16Ah battery, and 26” X 4.5” tires! These power-hungry upgrades help mark up the price to a hefty $5499-$5799.

But, if you want the ability to ride over any terrain for fishing, hunting, or just for fun or sport, the Apex is one of the best fat electric bikes for you.

Best Feature

The best overall feature for this e-bike has to be a tie between the 4.5” fat tires and the specialized sport trailers you can add on.

Take a look at this model and its price.

11. Lectric XP 3 Folding E-Bike – Lectric Bikes

Although this brand is relatively new (since 2018), it was quickly recognized to be an affordable, popular electric bike for just about anyone.

Now, the newest and most-featured packed Lectric 3.0 is here. Check it out in my full Lectric XP 3 electric bike review here.

This USA company began in Arizona and originally featured only 1 primary model with two variations, the Lectric XP. These both had fat tires and a range of up to 45 miles. Now, they have multiple models but the XP 3 is still the favorite.

Woman standing next to white step-thru Lectric e-bike
Riding My Lectric XP 3.0

Features and Benefits

The XP 3 comes as a standard bike frame or as a step-thru model, either in black or white. This cool folding e-bike has an 850 “peak” geared motor, “adjustable” front fork suspension, 28mph top speed, mechanical disc brakes, throttle, and five levels of pedal assist.

Plus, it’s foldable, thanks to its design and 20” wheels. Note: The XP comes with 3-inch “fat” tires, so these are a little narrower than standard 4.0” fat tires. However, this makes it easier to fold the bike and may be quite satisfactory if you won’t be riding hard in the snow or mud.

Best Feature

The price-to-value ratio of this versatile fat tire electric bike is definitely the best thing about it. Starting at only $999, you may also be able to get a special bundle offer. And, you can add a passenger seat so that two of you can ride!

Take a look at this model and its price.

12. Lectric XPremium Foldable Step-Thru – Lectric Bikes

The XPremium is essentially the same electric bike as above, but with a huge punch… it has a dual battery system and a mid-drive motor to give you power when you ask for it.

Lectric XPremium Black
Lectric XPremium Black

Features and Benefits

The XPremium fat tire electric bike gives you everything you want and more, starting with a low-step frame that makes it easy to get on and off. This makes it a lot more comfortable for many riders who want to have greater control over their e-bikes, or who have a hard time lifting their leg up and over to mount them.

It also comes in either black or white with a 500W (850W “peak”) geared motor, 160mm hydraulic disc brakes, front suspension fork, throttle, and five pedal assist levels.

And, of course, it’s foldable, even with 4.0” wide tires.

Best Feature

By far the best thing about this e-bike is the 100+ mile range, which is practically unheard of in an electric bike under $2000! Plus, it comes with a rear rack.

Take a look at the XPremium model here.

13. Speedrid 26” 4.0 Fat Tire – Ancheer

Ancheer is a USA discount brand that is sold through multiple retailers, as well as its own website. Prices can be found for around $1000 and even lower for a variety of different types of e-bikes.

So, it’s pretty awesome that you can get a fat tire electric bike for this amount, although it won’t be of the highest quality.

Blck Ancheer Speedrid 26 Fat Tire E-Bike
Ancheer Speedrid 26 Fat Tire

Features and Benefits

What’s important to know is that their electric fat tire e-bikes have mostly the same features as more expensive fat e-bikes.

For example, it has 26” X 4” fat tires along with a 500W rear hub motor and 48V battery. However, it has only 10Ah, which is slightly less than many e-bikes in this category. This just means that your battery capacity is lower and thus won’t take you quite as far as a battery with 12Ah or 14Ah.

Further, its maximum speed is 15mph, instead of the typical 20mph (let me assure you that this is an adequate speed in most situations and for many riders).

Still, it claims to offer a range of 22 to 40 miles and has other nice features such as an updated LCD display, mechanical disc brakes, a front suspension fork, and a 7-speed transmission system.

Best Feature

At a net weight of 59 lbs, this is less than most fat tire electric bikes, which is what impressed me!

Check out this model on Ancheer’s website.

14. GBI 750 Mag Folding E-Bike – Green Bike

Well, the name says it… it’s got a powerful 750 Watt brushless motor and it folds up so you can take it wherever you want to go.

Green Bike E-Bike from Bike Berry
Green Bike E-Bike

Features and Benefits

From Green Bike USA, this 4.0” fat tire folding model has quite a bit of power and battery capacity. Along with the 750W of power, you’ll get a 48V, 15Ah lithium battery which will take you up to 50 miles.

It even has a color LCD display showing speed, pedal assist level, distance ridden, battery charge, and more.

Best Feature

What’s amazing about this model is that it has full 4.0” fat tires but is still a foldable electric bike!

Check out this model and cost at Bike Berry!

15. Aventure 2 – Aventon

Here’s a fat tire electric bike with an ultra-powerful 48V, 15Ah lithium-ion battery and 28 mph top speed to get you where you need to go fast!

See my full Aventon Aventure 2 review and ride experience!

What’s really great is that there are 4 different frames. The step-over version (in Regular or Large) easily fits tall riders up to 6’4”. The step-through (in Regular or Large) fits adults as short as 4’11″… so it fits pretty much everyone! Plus get three color choices for each version.

Best Feature

Its power plus its Class 3 top speed of 28mph make this sturdy e-bike stand out above many!

Check out this model and its cost!

16. Mini Swell – Hurley

Like so many other brands, this one is full of adventure (being based in Southern California)! However, this company isn’t exclusive to e-bikes but you can tell about the quality of their bikes from all of the other amazing products they sell.

A 500 Watt motor and 48-volt pedal assist and throttle will take you along the streets, while the 4” tires will get you quickly over the sand at the beach. This is a perfect electric bike for anyone cruising the beach, city, or off-road trails.

Best Feature

By far, the coolest thing about these fat tire e-bikes is their flat and long utility seat. It gives you the feeling that you can just hop on and off at every fun stop, wherever you’re cruising.

And, thankfully, it weighs around 55 lbs which is a lot more manageable than 70 lbs.

Best Feature

The fact that this is a foldable step-thru makes it a perfect electric bike for ease of getting on and off.

18. Wildcat Pro Mountain – Emojo

A lower-priced option than the Ram model, it still has what you need but comes with a 500W  DC brushless motor instead of a 750W one.

Features and Benefits

Do you know whether you need a torque sensor or a cadence sensor? And that, perhaps, if you love exercise and want to pedal hard, you may want an e-bike with a torque sensor. Now you’re probably wondering what this means and how to get an electric bike with a torque sensor.

Electric bikes that have torque sensors are harder to find than those with cadence sensors. Torque sensors are generally found on more expensive e-bikes and in high-quality brands. You will likely pay $2000 or more for an e-bike with a torque sensor.

However, exceptions to this rule are becoming more common, as you can see in the list below.

Since they can be tough to find, I’ve compiled a list of electric bikes with torque sensors (from top brands):

Notice that most torque-sensor electric bikes have high speeds of 28mph or above.

Some people find that paying more for an e-bike with a torque sensor is totally worth it. Having one feels like your pedaling is increased several-fold and gives you more power per pedal.

Many e-bike riders learn through trial and error which sensor works the best for them… a torque or cadence sensor. But rather than purchasing multiple electric bikes to discover what works best, I’ve set out to help you figure out what e-bike sensor type you want and need.

Watch this review to learn how a torque sensor improves the riding experience in the Aventon Aventure 2!

What is Torque?

Torque is the tendency of a force to cause or change a body’s rotational motion. Simply put, torque is the measurement of power something has. Torque can apply many different kinds of force. With e-bikes, torque is measured at the point where you are pushing on the pedals.

It’s the torque required to climb a mountain that makes pedaling almost impossible. And it’s the provided torque that makes going down a hill so freeing. Everyone experiences torque in their daily lives, whether they realize it or not. Torque is almost literally what makes the world go round, and having a good understanding of it can make your life a lot easier.

For bikes, the pedals are the main point of torque, through which you make everything turn and move. When you increase the total torque, you may easily find yourself enjoying bike rides a lot more than you previously did. The torque provided in electric bikes can become almost addictive once you get used to it!

How Is Torque Measured in an E-Bike?

Attached to the pedals of the bike is a sensitive system that measures precisely when you are applying torque on the pedals. This pedal assist technology measures approximately 1000 times per turn how much torque you’re using, boosting the torque you are applying by the necessary amount.

This is why the battery of an electric bike holds its charge so much longer when you are pedaling instead of just using electric power.

This accurate measurement allows the motor to make you go faster when you are applying power. In some of the newer integrated systems, the motor assists and adds torque to your pedaling. This helps you go a little faster and even charge the batteries as you move.

The actual torque measurement is different on every e-bike as they all have different gear ratios and boost power. If you’d like to measure how much torque is being applied each time, you can use an app. But, your e-bike will need to connect to your phone (which many newer models do). Using this technology, you can measure just how much power and energy you have used.

Diagram of Torque
How Torque is Measured

Torque Sensor vs Cadence Sensor

Generally speaking, a torque or cadence sensor measures how much force you’re putting into your pedals. The sensors then use this information to calculate how much power should be generated from the motor. This allows you to continue moving forward at a consistent speed.

When you decide to go shopping for an electric bike, either through browsing online or in person, you’ll encounter a huge amount of different e-bikes. All e-bikes either use a cadence sensor or a torque sensor, with some of the newer models using both to provide double the benefits.

Bicycle companies have learned through trial and error that there are distinct benefits to using either system. And, naturally, you need to know what these are before buying.

You may be surprised at how much the sensor type differs. In fact, most people are not aware of sensors at all. Alternatively, those who love e-bikes might know enough about sensor differences to even upgrade their older e-bikes to the best possible sensor instead of buying a new one.

Check out our e-bike conversion Guide and kit recommendations.

What does a torque sensor do?

A torque sensor determines how much power to put out based on how hard you are pedaling. If you pedal lightly, you’ll move forward in the same manner. However, if you pedal with force, you’ll get moving quickly. This is because a torque sensor is faster in responding to the power you are giving the pedals. It’s immediate!

In other words, a torque sensor works in conjunction with the energy you are giving to the bike with your own feet. So when you pedal, you’re directly connecting with the system that gives you power. A torque sensor has often been described as intuitive. It senses what you’re trying to do and power is delivered as needed.

This allows you to have a lot more control over your electric bike. For example, if you’re tackling a hill, as soon as you start the incline your electric bike will provide more torque, possibly without you even needing to increase the pedal assist level.

Basically, a torque sensor forces you to be a lot more active and use your own power to move forward. So you won’t be getting lazy with one of these!

Want to learn more about getting exercise on an electric bike, regardless of the sensor it uses?

How does a cadence sensor work?

A cadence sensor only considers how fast you’re pedaling, rather than how hard. This type of sensor produces power from the electric motor at set intervals depending on the amount of power you are putting into the pedals and the overall speed you are going.

As you start pedaling, the motor will push out 100% of its power from the start, with most cadence sensors having three to five settings that you can use. The pedal assistance sensor will also stop providing 100% of the motor power once you have reached a certain speed.

While this may seem perfect, you will rarely need to pedal as you will have the constant power of the motor when on the bike. This makes the bike a powered bike with minimal input from you. So, you can choose to ride casually if you wish. However, you can still pedal as much as you’d like and get great exercise if that is your goal ( I do!).

Which is Better: A Cadence or Torque Sensor?

Now that you know what each of the two sensors is and their basic way of increasing the power you have with each push of the pedal, you’ll need to decide which one is better for you. Even when you are allowed to use both types of sensors, they won’t always apply to your needs or exercise requirements.

Both of these sensors have their uses, with many people swearing by one or the other. However, you should note that torque sensors are significantly more expensive than cadence sensors. This should make it clear which of the two is better as the technology continues to become more popular worldwide.

The occasional or casual e-bike rider

It’s pretty simple. If you are only using an e-bike to get somewhere too close to drive but too far to walk; you should be looking at getting a cadence sensor.

These types of bikes are a lot less expensive and can get you on the road without requiring any pedaling at all from you. The motor can be used in the same way that the throttle is used on a motorbike.

Wondering how to ride an e-bike without pedaling? Find out here!

Cadence sensors are loved by people who want an e-bike that doesn’t break the bank and aren’t as concerned about exercise or sport. Typically, these are the same people that will never take their e-bike on so much as a sandy road, never mind an entire mountain biking trail.

Often, you’ll see people either loving e-bikes or hating them completely. If the only experience they have is with the cadence sensor system, but they’re avid bike riders or intense sport and exercise enthusiasts, then they may think e-bikes are ridiculous.

The intense sport or exercise enthusiast

If you are a hardcore bike rider, mountain bike lover, enthusiastic bike lover, or just someone that loves to go somewhere on your bike, then the torque sensor is meant for you. This system allows you to train your muscles, power the battery, and reach further than ever before without becoming too spoiled.

Because torque sensors only amplify what you’re putting in, they’re seen as boosts to your workout.

By working in this manner, torque sensors allow you to comfortably and efficiently use them in most situations while also staying fit and healthy.

As you get a feel for your e-bike sensor, you may find yourself loving your e-bike more and more.

Which E-Bikes Have Torque Sensors?

Torque sensors can’t be found in every e-bike. In general, torque sensors are more expensive than cadence sensors. So once you decide to get an electric bike with a torque sensor, you can expect to pay around $200-$400 more.

In general, most e-bikes with mid-drive motors have torque sensors while cadence sensors are found on those with hub motors. There’s no denying that both mid-drive motors and torque sensors can be found on more expensive bikes.

And, therefore, you’ll find torque sensors in more expensive, high-quality e-bike brands as well as electric mountain bikes. This is primarily due to higher customer expectations of getting the power they need to go up hills.

Still, many of the newer e-bike models have adopted an integrated system, meaning that it uses a torque and a cadence sensor.

Some of the electric bike brands that use torque sensors or an integrated system are:

Juiced Bikes Hyperscorpion in silver
Juiced Bikes Hyperscorpion uses both a cadence and a torque sensor!

Motor Brands that include torque sensors:

  • Bosch
  • NuVinci
  • BionX
  • Brose

What should you look for when choosing an electric bike with a torque sensor?

When choosing an e-bike, you should ensure that the sensor system you’re buying has a good power “ratio”. An example is that some e-bikes with torque sensors have strong motors, robust gearing, and proper braking systems but small batteries.

This means that you’ll have to charge the system a lot more than expected and your range will be reduced.

I’d definitely recommend looking at the price of the e-bike before you get too attached to its features and torque system. If you find that getting a torque sensor is just too costly, you may want to re-evaluate whether a less-expensive cadence sensor will work for you.

After all, the sensor is just one of the important things you’ll want to consider when buying an e-bike.

You can purchase torque sensor e-bikes at many reputable bicycle shops and online retailers.

How Can a Torque Sensor Help You Go Further?

Don’t just worry about which electric bikes have torque sensors. First, decide whether paying the extra cost for one is worth it for you.

Pedal Assistance

If you are using an e-bike without pedaling (using only the throttle), you’ll typically reduce your maximum range significantly. However, when using a torque sensor properly, your range usually quadruples, allowing you to drive up to 100 miles on a battery charge.

This is because the motor is only boosting the power you supply to the wheels instead of powering them directly.

With each pedal push, you’ll feel like you have bionic strength, as compared to someone riding an electric bike with a cadence sensor. In fact, many of the most advanced e-bikes in the world will use a complex generator system with a torque sensor.

Battery Power

So, if you’re pedaling or going downhill, the battery will charge as you go. It may even recharge the battery when you are braking, allowing you to go even further.

Further, when using a cadence sensor, the motor is either on or off, always providing 100% or just 70% of its power. This drains the energy from the battery much faster.

But a torque sensor does the opposite! It doubles the amount of power you are giving, which means that when you are pedaling harder, more energy is provided. Therefore, this drastically prolongs the motor’s power and allows you to reach any location that you would like to comfortably.

Read here to find out how much you should pay for an e-bike!

Conclusion

Torque sensors are some of the most amazing things in electric bikes as they actually increase the power available. Many people have fallen in love with how these systems work and would never want to ride an entirely automatic bike (or an e-bike with a less-efficient cadence sensor for that matter).

So, what e-bikes have torque sensors? Well, if you follow high-quality brands, they’re not only more likely to use them, they’ll be sure to tell you that they are! You’ll then know that you’re investing in one that’ll last longer and need repairs less often.

Make sure to check out the curated list of torque sensor e-bikes at the top of the article!

But, whichever type of sensor you decide to use, please don’t expect the bike to make you magically capable of conquering the deepest mountain passes; that’s only possible with skill!

Aventon Aventure 2 Electric Fat Bike Review (with Torque Sensor)

Wish you had an electric bike that could go almost anywhere? One that rides over a variety of terrain smoothly but zips around comfortably on paved trails and city streets?

Hi, I’m Lisa from E-Biking Today and I’m excited to share my Aventon Aventure 2 electric fat bike review and ride experience with you.

Let me say that this electric bike has been the most fun ride experience I’ve had, much of it thanks to its torque sensor! Overall, I’m also impressed by the quality and value that exists in this $1899 fat tire ebike.

Another surprise is that Aventon actually added upgrades to the Aventure 2 while lowering its price by $100 from the original Aventure e-bike.

I’m excited to share all of the details with you!

Plus, although I’ve struggled a bit with finding any disadvantages of this cool adventure ebike, I did find a few. I’ll tell you the pros and cons and why you should buy (or not buy) it in this Aventon Aventure 2 electric bike review.

Pros of the Aventon Aventure 2 (Reasons to Buy)

I’m about to show you everything that’s amazing about the Aventon Aventure 2 in this ebike review. Not only is it a huge tech upgrade over the original Aventure, but it also smashes other electric bike competition (including Rad Power Bikes RadRover Plus) by including a torque sensor!

Torque Sensor

Why is a torque sensor helpful to e-bike riders?

The torque sensor on the Aventon Aventure 2 makes the biggest difference in its overall value. This upgraded setup provides a responsive and intuitive riding experience, one that senses when you begin to pedal.

I noticed that when I pedaled harder, the motor instantly responded by providing more power. So, I was able to quickly and easily accelerate from a stop, climb steep hills, and maintain a consistent speed on uneven terrain.

Another way to look at it is this: a torque sensor measures the amount of force or pressure applied to the pedals by the rider. Thus, I really love that the Aventure.2 starts moving when I pedal and actually stops moving when I stop pedaling. Overall, a torque sensor lets you choose how hard you want to work and lets you do so consistently (in turn, this provides a better opportunity for exercise).

Finally, electric bikes with a torque sensor help conserve battery life and offer a longer range, even more so for off-roaders or commuters who ride at higher speeds.

Aventon Aventure 2 With Torque Sensor
Aventon Aventure 2 has a superior torque sensor as opposed to a cadence sensor!

Torque Sensor vs Cadence Sensor

With a cadence sensor, you can feel a delay between when you start pedaling and when the motor engages.

In fact, there are times when I’ve felt as though an ebike is driving itself and my feet are just along for the ride.

I’ve actually had many near misses with doors and cars riding ebikes with cadence sensors, which simply measure the rotation of the pedals. And there was that one nasty curb that I didn’t miss!

Overall, the torque sensor makes the Aventon Aventure 2 an excellent choice if you want a high-performance e-bike that rides like a natural extension of your own pedal power.

Above-Average Value

There are some other serious advantages of the affordable Aventure 2 electric bike in addition to the torque sensor. These include an 80mm front suspension fork, hydraulic disc brakes, and 8-speed gears. You also get 4-inch all-terrain fat tires.

Aventure Front Suspension Fork
The Aventure Front Suspension Fork made a huge difference in ride quality and enjoyment for me!
Shimano Gears on the Aventure 2
Shimano Gears on the Aventure 2 are high-quality and shifted smoothly!

These features have made my ride experience incredibly comfortable. I’ve gone up and down hills off-road that I wouldn’t dare try on other electric bikes. So, I’ve had a ton of fun riding through canyons and dirt trails, even after it’s been raining.

Plus, the 750Watt motor and 4-level pedal assist can take you up to at least 28mph with a battery range of up to 60 miles. Just choose from the color-coded Eco, Tour, Sport, and Turbo modes. I’ve spent most of my time riding in Eco, Tour, and Sport modes with short throttle bursts. And I’ve only lost roughly 43% of my battery in 27 miles (43 km).

Aventon Aventure 2 Display Eco Mode
Aventon Aventure 2 Smart LCD Display Showing Eco Mode Pedal Assist

I was also surprised at my level of comfort on the new Aventon Aventure 2 ebike. Not only is it a smooth ride on or offroad, but the ergonomic grips, saddle, and overall fit make the ride experience truly enjoyable. But, if you need a wider saddle, it’s easy and inexpensive to replace.

Further, the Aventure 2 ebike holds up to 400 lbs of weight! Thankfully, you can use the on-demand throttle to help you get moving if there is a lot of weight on the bike.

And I can’t forget to mention that Aventon ebikes have included a bunch of features as standard equipment: a strong kickstand, fenders, and a rear rack to tote your gear.

These benefits really add to the amazing value of this electric bike!

Aventure Rear Rack and Fenders
Aventure Rear Rack and Fenders help you go to the store or off-road.

Advanced Tech Features

Another cool advantage of the Aventure 2 is the backlit, smart LCD display that pairs with the iOS or Android Aventon app. Just press and hold the + and – buttons (at the same time) to get the menu.

Then use the arrow keys to move up or down and choose what you want to modify. Using the app, you can record your ride stats and increase the speed limit up to 51km/h (equivalent to 31 mph). There are probably very few rides where you need to go that fast, and I don’t recommend it from a riding safety standpoint.

There’s also an integrated headlight and two (2) rear lights with a special new tech twist… turn signals. So, you have a light on either side of the tire. Simply press the left or right arrow for each turn signal. They’re a little hard to see during the day but are especially useful at dusk, dawn, or at night when it’s harder for cars to see cyclists.

Please use caution, however. I don’t think you should rely only on these turn signals since most drivers aren’t looking for them. Instead, you should always look around, use hand signals, and know what’s coming up behind you in your bike’s rearview mirror.

Aventure 2 Size and Fit

Another thing that shoots the Aventure.2 to the top of my best ebikes list is the sizing and fit. You can get a step-over or step-thru model, each with two frame sizes to choose from. Thus, ANYONE can ride, even a shorter person like me.

Sustainable Packaging

Also, Aventon electric bikes provide sustainable packaging for boxing and shipping, using rope ties and eco-friendly, easy-to-remove tape. Plus, the accessories and extra parts (such as the pedals) come in a super sturdy accessory box that you can repurpose!

Cons of the Aventon Aventure 2 (Reasons Not to Buy)

I’ll admit that I’m kind of reaching here for a few cons of the Aventure 2. But you should know everything before you buy. There’s only one thing about the Aventure that might be a reason not to buy.

Aventon Aventure 2 Battery integrated into the step-through frame
Aventon Aventure 2 Battery contributes to the overall weight of the e-bike. You can remove the battery to make it lighter for transporting.

Heavy Electric Fat Bike

The Aventure 2 weighs 77 lbs (35 kg), which is not unusual for a full-size fat tire ebike, but it’s quite heavy just the same. The Aventure 1 weighs 73 lbs (33 kg). So, presumably, a little bit of weight was added to enhance the performance of the Aventure 2.

Likely, if you would have trouble lifting 77 lbs, you’ll still have trouble lifting any heavy e-bike. However, if you have a riding partner to help or don’t see any need to pick up your e-bike, then this won’t be a big concern for you.

Truthfully, if you want an adventure electric fat bike, it’ll be a heavy ebike no matter which one you choose. Further, even a smaller folding e-bike with 20-inch fat tires won’t get you over as much diverse terrain.

So, here are my thoughts. You might as well get the Aventon Aventure 2 since it’s one of the best electric bikes with fat tires and a great torque sensor setup. Compare how much electric bikes weigh in this article.

Aventon App Connection

I’ve found that I have to check my electric bike’s connection with the Aventon app to make sure it’s recording my stats before each ride. If you don’t care about recording your ride statistics, then this isn’t a con for you. And it’s not a big concern in the first place.

Additionally, when adjusting the speed limit, you can only do it in kilometers per hour. Therefore, you’ll have to spend a few seconds looking up the equivalent in miles per hour.

For your information, 51 km/h is equivalent to 31 mph, which is the top speed on the display. I was able to easily get my Aventure 2 up to 28mph (45 km/h). But, I honestly don’t have anywhere I feel is safe to test it at a greater speed.

Missing a Simple Feature

Here is one of the most unfortunate things I discovered during my Aventon Aventure 2 electric bike review. With all of the other amazing features, it doesn’t come with a bike bell. Yes, I’m joking! However, it doesn’t seem like it would be hard for Aventon to add one!

Your electric bike requires special care. And if you don’t take care of it correctly, it could cause damage to the bike’s electrical components. This holds true when it comes to how to clean your e-bike. A common question is whether you can get the job done quickly with a power washer.

Unfortunately, you should never power wash your electric bike. You can easily damage delicate electric parts of an e-bike, such as the battery compartment and motor, by cleaning with a powerful water spray. Loose debris, dirt, sand, water, and moisture can be forced into sensitive areas by a pressure wash.

Further, a high-pressure power washer can also remove essential grease that protects the bearings from water and debris.

So how do you properly, and carefully, clean an electric bike without ruining it? It’s not hard but does require a bit of knowledge so that you do it correctly… and with the right tools and cleaning supplies.

Here’s a list of safe products you can get from Amazon to have on hand when washing your e-bike (keep reading to find out how to clean with them):

How Do I Clean an Electric Bike?

You may need to clean your e-bike when you least expect it. Even if you typically ride on clean streets and stay off dirt roads, you might find yourself hitting a muddy puddle, going through a dirty construction zone, or taking a detour on a dirt path, suddenly accumulating excess dirt!

Thus, you should get prepared for e-bike cleaning beforehand. This is just as you should have a tire pump and a bike tool kit or multitool on hand at all times (even if you plan on taking your e-bike to a bike shop to get serviced).

Further, if you clean an electric bike incorrectly, you could void the manufacturer’s warranty! And it makes sense that you’d want to wash an e-bike on a sunny day. However, don’t jump into e-bike cleaning unless you follow these guidelines. It’s best to avoid damaging your e-bike’s electrical components, brake calipers, brake pads, etc.

Steps to safely clean your electric bike without ruining it

  1. Securely cover or remove the battery and digital display before washing.

Either one is a good choice. However, it’s a good idea to remove the battery compartment occasionally to clean off contacts and make sure there’s no debris stuck where it shouldn’t be.

It’s easy to protect the display with a poly film or small plastic bag, but this may not be necessary if you’re not going to spray down your bike and are using only a damp rag. Just make sure there’s no water dripping from the rag.
  2. Use a soft-bristled brush or soft rag to wipe off loose debris, dirt, sand, or saltwater spray.

Start at the top of your e-bike and work your way down. You’ll spend the most time on your tires and rims because they pick up the most debris. A soft brush will work best for the tires, especially for knobby, fat tires.
  3. If any parts of the drivetrain (derailleurs, chain, cassette, or chainrings) are thick with grease, be sure to use a degreaser first.

Only use a degreaser made just for bicycles and don’t apply it anywhere but on the drivetrain. In fact, it’s best to spray the degreaser directly onto the cleaning brush, instead of the whole chain.

Let the degreaser dry and then continue cleaning your e-bike.
  4. Wash your e-bike with bike-specific cleaner.

You can use soapy water or a bike shampoo that doesn’t attack plastics like this one.

It’s good practice to wash an e-bike by taking a soft damp rag (like these microfiber cloths) or sponge to wipe down the frame, starting at the top. Many bike washes can simply be sprayed on and wiped or washed off. But do be careful that you’re not spraying near the electrical components. If you are, spray the shampoo directly onto a rag and then wash the bike with the rag. Gently scrub parts that can be safely washed.

NOTE: There are some sensitive parts that shouldn’t be washed with soap or water (or rubbed too vigorously, even with a dry rag): These include the e-bike brakes, seat post, chains, gears, wheel hubs, bottom bracket, and headset bearing (where the frame and handlebars connect). All of these areas have been prepared for proper functioning when the bike was built and shouldn’t be messed with.

Further, these areas are potential access points for water getting into the frame (which could cause rusting). However, these can all be wiped down with a soft, dry rag.

Then rinse off all of the soap and residue. Use a wet rag for this or a very low-pressure garden hose (I avoid using a hose entirely because it’s not worth the risk, even if it isn’t a pressure washer). Just make sure to squeeze out the excess water throughout.

Don’t forget to clean the tires, probably the dirtiest of all bike parts (and use a tire pump with a pressure gauge to properly inflate them if needed)!
  5. Dry your electric bike thoroughly.

Don’t leave any areas to rust or keep moisture where it shouldn’t be.

If you do use a garden hose, you’ll have to take special care to thoroughly dry your e-bike everywhere, paying careful consideration to dry all of the “potential access points” mentioned above.
  6. Lubricate the chain with the proper lubricant (so you don’t ruin it).

This needs to be done frequently, but especially after every wash. In order to lubricate the bike chain correctly, you’ll need to use a “dry” lubricant if you ride in dry conditions and a “wet” one if you ride frequently in wet conditions.

Apply the lube to the chain in the middle, where it hangs freely. Put the lube on the top of the bottom chain so it’ll be evenly distributed. Avoid getting chain lube anywhere else, especially onto the brakes. Make sure to gently wipe off excess lubrication.
  7. Carefully clean the brakes.

Pay special attention when cleaning e-bike brakes. Use a cleaner specially designed for bike brakes. But DO NOT use a degreaser.
  8. Test out your e-bike’s functions after cleaning.

Is the battery re-attached correctly? Is the e-bike controller working? Is the motor running efficiently?

And make sure every nook and cranny is dry!

What E-Bike Cleaner Should I Use?

There are a variety of products to choose from, so it can get a little overwhelming. So, first, I’ll make it clear what you don’t want to use and then show you what you can safely use.

Cleaning supplies you should not use:

Don’t use soap meant for cars, as they tend to have wax in them not meant for bikes.

And, as mentioned previously, don’t wash your electric bicycle or use any kind of pressure washer or a high-pressure hose.

Cleaners you can use safely:

In general you can use any type of cleaner, degreaser, and lubricant made specifically for bicycles. Not ones for motorcycles or cars… just bikes!

The most important thing isn’t the brand of bike cleaner you use, it’s that you use it correctly on your electric bike. Again, avoid spraying directly into sensitive areas, and don’t overuse. Just follow the directions on the back of the cleaning solution bottle.

That being said, there are a few cleaners that stand out as having been used happily by thousands of consumers:

Muc-Off MOX-904 Nano Tech Bike Cleaner

This fully biodegradable cleaner works fast to break down grime all while protecting your e-bike’s finish. And with thousands upon thousands of great reviews on Amazon, you have to figure it’ll do the job!

It even claims to be okay to use on disc brakes. However, I’d still suggest you use a product made just for e-bike disc brake pads.

Finish Line Super Bike Specific Wash

While it’s super easy to spray onto your e-bike and wash off, it also contains a formula that’ll prevent oxidation and rust. It has great reviews on Amazon so you really can’t go wrong with this washing solution.

What Electric Bike Chain Lube Should I Use?

The most important thing is not which brand of chain lubricant you buy, but whether it meets your riding needs. But, fortunately, it’s pretty straightforward.

Buy a dry bike lubricant if you ride in a predominantly dry area like California. But get a wet lube for your e-bike if it rains often, or you splash through lots of mud and snow. So, the type of lube you choose will be super important for mountain bikers during cold winters.

Muc-Off has both a dry lube and a wet lube used by myself and many others. Just pick the one that works for your e-bike and primary riding conditions.

Further, although it’s easy to use a spray degreaser, it’s good practice to avoid spraying the brakes!

How Often Should I Clean My E-bike?

Ideally, you should clean your electric bike as often as you can (as detailed in the steps above). Wash it whenever you see debris clinging to your e-bike or when you’ve been riding in any terrain other than a paved road.

Certainly, if you’re using your electric mountain bike in the mud and snow, clean it after every ride.

Further, if you’ve been riding on the sand at the beach, with salt spray, you’ll also want to clean it immediately.

But if this isn’t the case, and your e-bike just gets moderately dirty over time, then you can keep it clean as you go. Just take a dry or damp rag and wipe or dust off the dirt regularly, perhaps after each ride. Then it won’t accumulate. And you won’t need to give it a full clean as often.

You don’t have to wash your e-bike if you get your bike professionally cleaned every time you have it serviced. But even then, most bike shop professionals will suggest that you clean it in between services.

Wet E-Bike seat
Water won’t hurt your electric bike as long as you dry all components thoroughly.

Conclusion

Buying and maintaining an e-bike is an investment of both time and money. So it’s important to understand how to properly clean and maintain it. Simple things like using a bike-specific degreaser and the correct kind of water-resistant lubricant can help to protect e-bikes.

The first thing you should know is that giving an e-bike a pressure wash cleaning could totally ruin it. You could go from having the time of your life riding your e-bike to crying over why the motor will no longer work!

Ultimately, that won’t happen if you follow the simple steps I’ve outlined above on how to clean your electric bike without a high-pressure wash. Be prepared by getting the knowledge and the tools you need to wash your e-bike at a moment’s notice.

Aventon vs Lectric Brands Comparison

0
Aventon e-bike vs Lectric e-bike

When buying your first e-bike (or even your second or third one), research plays an important role in ensuring you get the best bang for your buck. It’s also helpful to compare brands side-by-side, as you can learn a lot about the quality and features of each.

Here we compare two popular brands, Aventon and Lectric, to help you decide which one is the right fit for you.

Overall, Lectric is lower-priced than Aventon, with e-bikes starting at $799 and $1299 respectively. However, both brands offer good quality and value for the money. In general, if you are looking for a smaller, folding e-bike at a lower price, you can go with Lectric; otherwise, Aventon has a greater variety of models and features to choose from.

Both brands are one of the top e-bike brands in the industry. Thus, if you select the right one, based on your needs, you can’t go wrong with either of them.

So to help you discover the best brand for you, I’ve researched and compared both Aventon and Lectric Bikes.

Keep reading to get helpful insights on both brands as well as side-by-side comparisons of their electric bikes.

Aventon E-Bike Brand

Aventon is one of the top e-bike brands that sits comfortably in the value-priced e-bike range.

Although Aventon is a US brand, they have a factory in China where all parts are produced. The unassembled parts are then sent to their headquarters in Southern California, where they do further assembly and inspection of the final product to ensure quality.

Let’s look at some of the pros and cons of Aventon electric bikes that’ll tell you what you need to know. You’re sure to discover why they are a top electric bike brand.

Pros:

Types of electric bike models from Aventon
Choose from a wide variety of Aventon electric bicycles!

#1. Wide Range of Models Available

They offer different models with different frame sizes. So unlike the other e-bike brands offering you a one-size fits all option, with Aventon, you can easily and comfortably fit on just the right size bike.

Select from lighter-weight road bikes, fat tire e-bikes, folding bikes, and comfortable cruisers and commuters. Many of Aventon’s models are considered hybrid electric bikes offering more than one of these main riding features.

For instance, you can get the Aventon Sinch foldable e-bike with fat tires that are great for commuting and light off-roading.

With Aventon, you can pick and choose the e-bike that works for you.

#2. High-Quality Battery

Aventon uses powerful integrated batteries that make it easy to go fast and far. Plus, with their battery located inside the frame, the bike lines are quite sleek.

Their high-quality lithium-ion batteries will typically go up to 40 or more miles on a single charge. Just keep in mind that lithium batteries will lose their capacity over time.

Read more about typical e-bike battery life and tips to make it last longer.

#3. Features And Range

Aventon electric bikes also offer a “throttle on demand” drive feature. With this thumb throttle, you can choose whether you need the pedal assist option or not.

With all of their models, you get five pedal assist levels. And with each level, you can go faster, but the range can reduce correspondingly.

The typical range of these electric bikes can vary depending on the pedal assist levels you select. As a general rule, with most Aventon e-bikes, you can expect a battery range of up to 57 miles at the lowest level (Level One).

And in terms of throttle use, you can get a range of around 20 miles on one charge if you use the motor power exclusively.

#4. Rear Hub Motors

With Aventon electric bikes, you typically get rear hub motors, which keep the overall cost of the bike lower. With a hub motor, you don’t need to worry much about the maintenance and repair side of things.

Furthermore, Aventon’s motors have enough torque to speed up your ride but also allow you to take a break from pedaling as compared to mid-drive motors.

#5. Easy to Assemble

Aventon electric bikes are high-quality and easy to unbox and assemble (unlike some electric bikes I’ve had to put together). Watch how I unboxed and assembled the Aventon Aventure 2 e-bike:

Cons:

#1. Motor Weight Can Be Challenging

It’s essential to remember that rear hub motors also have a few drawbacks. They tend to be heavy, so if you are a beginner and end up pushing your e-bike up a hill, you’ll feel the challenge!

#2. Relatively Expensive (as compared to Lectric bikes)

Regarding price, be mindful that Aventon e-bikes aren’t the cheapest e-bike brand out there but they are highly competitive with direct competitors (such as Rad Power Bikes). However, what you get for your money is excellent.

Aventon Electric Bike Types:Price:

In addition to their value-for-money feature, they have dealers across the United States. That means you can go and test any particular electric bike from the Aventon brand before purchasing it.

Lectric E-Bike Brand

With the popular Lectric XP 3.0 model e-bike, Lectric has quickly become one of the top value brands.

Even though they are a lower-priced brand, they still manage to use quality parts from Shimano, Tektro, and other well-known companies. This fact, and customer satisfaction, is probably why they’ve grown to be one of the best e-bike brands made in the USA.

Pros

#1. Enough Options Based On Your Needs

Whether you are looking for a lightweight, folding, step-through, or long-range e-bike, Lectric has it covered.

You won’t get as many options as you would from Aventon, but the variety is still enough to cater to your different needs.

For instance, with their foldable electric bikes, commuting and traveling become easier. If you want a compact e-bike handy to carry and store, you can look for their premium lightweight model called the Lectric XP Lite (it only weighs 46 lbs).

And their step-through model is ideal for shorter riders, seniors, and anyone who wants total ease of getting on and off their bike.

Further, their e-bikes have a typical frame design that allows you to handle and access them irrespective of your height or riding ability, so most riders will be comfortable.

#2. Lithium Ion Battery

In all Lectric e-bikes, you can find a 48V Lithium Ion Battery. You can easily slide the battery into the e-bike’s frame, and installation and removal are also simple.

As with most batteries, you need to charge for four to six hours.

#3. Affordable Price

Their electric bikes have a very reasonable price and fit in the budget category.

Lectric E-Bikes:Price:
XP Lite$799
XP 3.0$999
XPremium$1799

*Prices may fluctuate over time

#4. Compact Design

The design of this e-bike has its advantages. On the rear and front, you can use a rack for storage. So it is really like a mini cargo. The rear rack is included in your purchase, which is a definite advantage.

If your height is between 5 ft. to 6 ft. 3 inches, this e-bike (especially the Lectric XP 3.0 model) can be comfortable for you.

#5. Easier to assemble than most other ebikes

The Lectric XP 3 was the easiest electric bike I’ve ever assembled! See exactly how it’s done in this video:

Cons

The compact design of the Lectric e-bikes is what makes them easy to use. But at the same time, you may not like the relatively small tire and long stem design.

#1. Design May Be Unsuitable

With the folding design and small 20-inch wheels, you may struggle a bit while handling the e-bike. This becomes especially true when we compare the stability one can achieve from other brands’ non-folding and bigger wheel e-bikes.

#2. Handling Can Be A Bit Challenging

And even though the e-bike is small and may offer folding convenience, the XP and XPremium are still quite heavy (64 lbs and 75 lbs). So if you are thinking of carrying it upstairs or putting it on a bus or train, it can be a bit awkward.

With all that said, for the price point, you get the necessary features. And, if you are looking for a small wheeled foldable e-bike, the Lectric e-bikes are worth it.

Comparing E-Bike Models From Aventon And Lectric

When comparing brands, it’s helpful to look at similarities between e-bike models.

Here are three major comparisons that can help you choose between brands, models, and prices.

Know the difference between the Lectric XP 3 and XP Lite? Watch this to find out!

#1. Aventon Soltera vs Lectric XP Lite: Least Expensive Models

Cost

The lowest-priced Aventon e-bike, the Soltera, costs around $1299. On the other hand, the XP Lite model from Lectric costs around $799. So in terms of the lowest cost, the Lectric XP Lite is a clear winner.

However, if you’re looking for an inexpensive e-bike and considering these two brands, this should be a helpful comparison.

Motor

The Aventon Soltera uses a 350W powerful rear hub motor. On the other hand, the XP Lite uses a 300W rear hub motor. In terms of motor power, the Aventon Soltera wins.

Both these e-bikes are equipped with five levels of pedal assist to enhance your riding experience.

Range and Speed

The Aventon Soltera gives you a range of around 20 miles without pedaling. And the maximum speed you can achieve is about 20 mph. However, the total range you can ride will be different depending on the motor power you use.

Generally, you can expect a range of 22 – 63 miles based on the assistance level you select (from 1 to 5).

Now coming to the XP Lite, you get a throttle-only range of around 15 miles. And with pedal assist, your range can be 15 – 40 miles based on whether you ride on the highest pedal assist level or not.

With the Lectric XP Lite e-bike, you can get a top speed of 20 miles per hour. However, remember that when you are on steep hills, you may struggle to reach the max speed as compared to when you are on flat ground. Pedaling will help you to retain more power though.

In terms of range, both electric bikes are almost the same. Still, the Aventon Soltera seems to have an edge in this comparison with a slightly higher range.

Aventon Soltera is a lightweight commuter bike at only 43 lbs.
Lectric XP Lite Blue
Lectric XP Lite Blue

Frame and Design

Considering the design, the Soltera and the XP Lite are unique in their own way.

The Soltera has a specific frame geometry of its e-bike that puts your weight slightly more towards the handlebars. This actually allows you to have better stability and control while riding.

Whereas the XP Lite has one of the smallest frames on the market, it isn’t considered a mini e-bike.

Honestly, when comparing the looks, the Aventon Soltera seems to stand out with its slender frame and integrated battery. But, of course, looks can be subjective and can differ based on your taste.

The thing is, the frame of this e-bike is designed to look more like those fixed-gear track bikes usually found on college campuses and urban areas.

On the other hand, the XP Lite has a short wheel and long stem look, making look a little more suitable for teens and young adults.

Which One Is Better And For Whom?

In terms of price, there’s a decent difference between Soltera and XP Lite (roughly $500). But still, it’s not too much.

We saw that, except for price, in all categories like design, range, and looks, the Soltera is slightly better. But again, there’s the cost factor.

In short, if you prefer a small, compact design and want to put a little less stress on your wallet, you can go with the Lectric XP Lite.

However, if you prefer a bit more range, power, stability, and a classy look while paying slightly more, the Aventon Soltera is your way to go.

#2. Aventon Aventure vs Lectric XP 3.0 vs Lectric XPremium: Fat Tire Models

Cost

The Aventon Aventure 2 costs around $1899. On the other hand, the Lectric XP 3.0 costs start at $999 while the XPremium sells for around $1799.

So as you can see, the Aventure 2 is almost double the cost of the Lectric XP 3 and still slightly more expensive than the XPremium.

Tires

Both the Aventon Aventure 2 and Lectric XP 3.0 are fat tire e-bikes. However, on an Aventure, you get 26″ x 4″ fat tires in contrast with the XP 3.0 where you get 20″ x 3″ wide tires. However, jump into the next category with the XPremium and you’ll get the full 4″ fat tires, although still with a 20″ wheel.

Aventon Aventure 2 with step-over frame
Aventon Aventure 2 with step-over frame

Motor

The Aventure uses a powerful 750 Watt hub motor, whereas the Lectric XP uses a 500W hub motor that peaks at 850W. However, the XPremium stands out here by offering a 500 Watt (800W peak) mid-drive motor.

Suspension

Both the Aventure and the XPremium have a suspension fork to make for a more comfortable ride.

Range and Speed

On average, you can get 28 miles per hour at max speed and up to 60 miles range with the Aventure 2 high-capacity battery. With the XP 3.0, you get a range of up to 45 miles and a top speed of 28 mph.

Here’s where the Lectric XPremium really stands out: It has a range of up to 100+ miles on level one pedal assist and 50 miles using full throttle! This almost doubles the range of the Aventure!

Which One Is Better And For Whom?

Considering the Aventon Aventure and Lectric XP 3.0 comparison, you’ll get what you pay for.

Of course, the high-performance Aventure is almost double the cost of the Lectric XP 3. However, as we saw, you also get better specs in terms of range, speed, and tire size.

But between all three models, you clearly gain a lot of ground with the Lectric XPremium, which makes a huge jump in price over the XP 3.0 but still saves a couple of hundred dollars over the Aventure.

So, if the specs difference between the e-bikes doesn’t bother you much, then you can settle with the Lectric XP 3.0 and save a lot of money. But if you want better features and are ready to pay for them, you can go with the Aventon Aventure.2 or XPremium.

#3 Lectric XPremium vs Aventon Sinch: Folding Electric Bike Comparison

Finally, let’s compare the two models that are the most similar, the Aventon Sinch and Lectric XPremium.

Cost

The XPremium and Sinch both fall at a price of $1799, so these are easily compared from this standpoint.

Tires

Both models have 20″ small wheels and 4-inch fat tires.

Motor

Both e-bikes have a 500W powerful motor and throttle. However, the XPremium has a mid-drive motor while the Sinch has a hub motor. You might like to check out the differences between these motor types.

Green Aventon Sinch Folding E-Bike
Aventon Sinch Step-Thru

Range and Speed

Here’s where things start to diverge. As mentioned previously, the XPremium has an incredible range of up to 100+ miles. But the Sinch has a range of only up to 54 miles, even on the lowest pedal assist level.

Still, if you decide you love the Sinch for other reasons, its range is typically more than enough for most people (I’ve never had the desire to ride my foldable RadMini, now the RadExpand, more than 40 miles but I ride it all of the time)!

One other difference: The Lectric XPremium can be a Class 2 or 3 e-bike (so it can get up to 28 mph max), whereas the Sinch is limited to a 20 mph top speed Class 2.

Frame and Design

The Sinch comes in both a step-through and a step-over frame, your choice. However, the XPremium is only available in a step-through frame. As these types of frames become more popular for everyone, this is less of a concern.

What’s more important is the frame style, which substantially differs, and it’s just a matter of preference really. They both come in a choice of colors, so you should check out the options.

Which One Is Better And For Whom?

These two models have quite a lot of similarities. But there are a few other differences to compare.

The Sinch offers a front suspension fork which will make you a great deal more comfortable off-road and on rough terrain.

The XPremium doesn’t have a suspension fork. However, it offers powerful hydraulic disc brakes (as opposed to mechanical disc brakes), a mid-drive motor, and a torque sensor (as opposed to a cadence sensor), not to mention that it comes with a rear rack and fenders.

So, truthfully, you need to compare these differences if they matter to you. Otherwise, you can primarily compare the range and design between the XPremium and the Sinch.

Final Verdict

In short, the ultimate decision is based on you and your needs. Do you like the folding style of e-bike that gives you a decent range and features? Then look at all 3 models of the Lectric brand to spend less for a great electric bike.

However, if you don’t mind spending a few bucks extra to get a classy-looking e-bike or full-size wheels, you can surely look towards Aventon. Either way, you’re going to have a fun ride!

What Are Electric Bikes Good For? 16 Reasons Why They Are Popular

0
RadMini E-bike from Rad Power Bikes

Electric bikes are an increasingly popular mode of transportation and enjoyment in many parts of the world.

People buy electric bikes for many good reasons. In general, the motor assistance that e-bikes provide allows almost anyone to ride one, and increased popularity resulted.

In this article, we will explore some reasons why they have become so popular, and what advantages they offer over traditional pedal bicycles.

Read on to find out 16 reasons why electric bikes are so loved by their owners and what they’re good for!

1. Electric bikes are good for tackling hills

With electric bikes, those who live in hilly areas can easily handle the inclines. There is no need to worry about breaking a sweat or getting tired from trying to make it up the hill!

Basically, the motor on an e-bike will power your bike uphill with ease so that you can enjoy the ride without any extra effort.

So, if you’re a recreational rider or use it as an alternate form of fitness, they’re super easy and fun to ride. There’s absolutely no stress that you won’t be able to get back home because you’re tired or can’t make it up an incline.

For instance, I live in a neighborhood with steep hills required to get in and out of it. Since I’ve had my e-bike, I ride all of the time because I can get up the hill to ride wherever I’d like (and I don’t have to walk my bike up a hill to get back home).

My other very lovely bike sits in the garage collecting dust.

2. E-bikes are good for commuting to work or school

Let’s face it… electric bikes are much cheaper than cars, and who doesn’t like saving money?

You can purchase a quality e-bike (Amazon link) for around $900- $1200 and ride to work every day without spending money on gas or expensive car repairs.

Plus, you’ll be much less stressed about traffic. You can easily ride to work without having to worry about a crazy commute or sitting in traffic. For these reasons, electric bikes are quite popular in countries with very big congested cities, like China and India.

And, you’ll certainly get to work or school much faster (and easier) than if you were on a regular bike.

Commuters using e-bikes to get to school

Another big benefit of cycling on your daily commute is that it is a great way to exercise: It can energize you for the work or school day while also helping you to relax once you get home for the day.

Riding an electric bike instead of a regular bike is also perfect for those days where you might not feel 100%. If you are feeling under the weather you’ll have a much easier time riding your electric bicycle instead.

3. Electric bikes have a positive impact on the environment

They’re environmentally friendly and help save the environment by decreasing pollution from cars.

Electric bikes are a great way to replace car trips, which have an enormous negative impact on the environment. They produce zero emissions so they’re better for our environment than cars or gas-powered vehicles.

A study in Portland, Oregon found that electric bikes can significantly reduce carbon emissions as more people ride them.

To those who are more conscious about the environment, e-bikes are a popular way to contribute to a healthy environment.

And with major environmental issues like climate change on our doorstep, even small changes can add up over time. Electric bicycles offer a way for people to make these changes without having to make a huge commitment.

Not sure what types of electric bikes are good for you? Watch this!

4. Electric bicycles are popular for those with limited mobility or disabilities

Cycling is much more accessible for just about everyone now, which has increased electric bike popularity overall. Riding a bike is possible for people with disabilities, seniors with limited mobility, and adults with injuries. Almost anyone can get the assistance they need to get around.

Even though a majority of e-bikes require pedaling to assist the motor, most disabled individuals can maintain a constant rhythm (also called “cadence”) to their pedaling. This is all they need to do to ride… besides holding on.

Therefore, if they can pedal, then they can ride an electric bike. It’ll help to get them from point A to point B, go up steep hills, ride much farther, and do it much faster! All despite physical demands.

E-biking is a great way for those with disabilities (who otherwise can’t drive a car or move slowly) to maintain their independence!

What about kids? Can they ride an electric bike too?

5. Electric hybrid bikes are good on different terrains

They’re very versatile in terms of riding wherever you need to. Most hybrid e-bikes can cross from gravel or dirt paths to paved roads with ease! This makes hybrids super popular.

Think of it this way… you can commute to work over roads but also cross through parks and hiking paths on your way. This is generally because of the fatter tires made for all road conditions.

More and more e-bikes are like the cool Aventon Aventure 2… they ride on pavement and off-road!

6. Electric bikes are good transportation (without a driver’s license)

In many states, you don’t need a license to ride an ebike, although there are other restrictions and laws in the United States that you should be aware of and follow. However, only a handful of states require a license.

They’re also exempt from registration fees and insurance requirements in most countries (except for Canada)!

Further, although some states have no age restrictions for riding an electric bike, many do. If they do have a minimum age, it’s generally at least 14 (which is still below the driver’s license age).

7. Electric bikes are great for saving money on transportation

In general, an electric bike is a great option for people who want to save money while commuting (or even getting around town). If you don’t mind riding to work every day, you can save quite a bit of money on gas or on bus or train fare.

And you’ll probably even enjoy the ride!

It also helps that you won’t get stuck in traffic or have to wait for public transportation with no guarantee they’ll arrive on time.

An e-bike can get you where you need to go quickly and efficiently without any big expense.

8. No worry about finding a parking space for your e-bike

It’s much easier to park a bike than a car, which makes this form of transportation popular with commuters. Electric bikes just don’t take up much space at all.

And this can be a big deal if you live or work in an area where parking permits cost money and spots are limited.

Plus, bike racks are typically close to your work or apartment building, so you don’t have to park far away and walk several blocks (just keep your e-bike securely locked up with one of these from Amazon).

You might even be able to bring your bicycle inside without parking it at all.

It’s much easier to park a bike than a car!

9. Electric bike riding is a fun and healthy way to get exercise

Exercise is easy and manageable on an electric bike. Since it’s battery-powered, riding an e-bike doesn’t have to be strenuous, so you can work out longer and have more fun doing it.

Electric bicycles are also good for people who want to exercise but not get super sweaty (especially in public!).

The good thing about electric bikes is that they provide motor support whenever needed during pedaling.

So you can ride as long and far as you’d like while knowing that you can get more assistance on the way home or when you get tired. Just make sure your battery is charged!

You might even find that riding a bike is more pleasant and less intimidating than joining a gym, especially when on an electric bike. You’ll be able to go at your own pace without pressure. And you can hop on and ride whenever you want to (heck, you could even ride to the gym!),

10. Electric bikes are good for speed (up to 20 miles per hour)!

Love speed? Well, an electric bike has you covered! No more lazy bike rides! If you love to go fast, you can. And most go up to 20 miles per hour. Not only is it super fun, but you can also get where you need to go without it feeling like a chore.

You’ll also be able to go much farther. With an electric bike, you won’t have as hard of time climbing hills quickly. And you’ll be able to go long distances on flat ground thanks to moving quickly.

Besides having it get you where you want to go fast, my husband and I ride after working on a computer all day just to feel the stress melt away.

An electric bike has advantages over regular bikes because they are much faster than traditional bicycles for most of us (unless you’re a serious cyclist).

11. Folding electric bikes are also popular (for a good reason)

A foldable e-bike (Amazon) makes storage and transportation easier (and they aren’t necessarily more expensive because they fold up)

For one, you can fold it to fit in smaller storage areas, which really comes in handy if you live in an apartment or small house.

how a foldable e-bike fits in back of car

You can also put it in the back of your car once it’s folded, instead of hassling with a car bike rack or scratching the interior.

Further, having a folding electric bike helps to avoid theft since you can take it more easily with you or put it away securely. It’s much riskier to leave it on your car’s bike rack than to bring it inside a hotel room with you while you’re traveling.

This makes them good for taking along on your next adventure!

12. Less effort required (you don’t even need to pedal)

It’s easier to pedal an electric bike than it is to ride a regular bicycle because it’s powered by a battery. You don’t have to exert as much energy when the bike does some of the work for you. This makes riding an electric bike less strenuous, which means that it’s good for both your body and your mind.

The first thing to know about electric bikes is that they can be powered by a battery or by pedaling for propulsion (generally referred to as pedal assist). When using the battery-powered option, you never need to worry about getting sweaty or out of breath when riding up hills because you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Another benefit is that you might not even need to pedal when you don’t want to. If your e-bike comes with a throttle, you can use it to get moving and stay moving without doing a thing!

Learn how to ride an e-bike without pedaling here!

13. Electric bikes use popular technology

When you ride an electric bike, you’re literally riding a bike with a computer. Its artificial intelligence automatically tracks your distance, speed, and tells you what you need to know about each trip.

Some can even be integrated with your mobile phone to provide trip planning and fitness tracking.

As we’ve all gotten used to having data about ourselves readily available, it’s nice to know that we have access to it when riding an ebike as well.

Check out this article on GPS trackers for your e-bike!

14. Ride farther on an electric bicycle (than on a regular bike)

The range and battery life offered by most electric bikes are usually plenty enough for your daily needs. Batteries have between 20 and 50 miles per charge. This makes them perfect for commuting to and from work every day as well as for long-distance rides.

Therefore, you can fairly easily ride a 20-mile bike path loop, which you could probably never do on a standard bicycle (honestly, I’ve never even thought of trying).

15. Ports to charge your cell phones are a popular feature

Many newer e-bikes have a port in which to charge your cell phone. Yes, you can actually charge your phone while riding!

So, not only can you go faster, farther, and ride easier on an electric bike, you can have access to your phone for its GPS or to stay in touch with work or family. And because it’s electric, your phone charger will work as long as your battery does.

Sorry, but regular bikes don’t have this feature!

16. The ultimate reason electric bikes are popular: They’re easy-peasy!

Whether it’s a road bike, e mountain bike, commuter, or hybrid electric bike, you just plug it in when you get home from riding, charge it a few hours, and then you’re ready to hop on and ride again!

No need to think about where you’re going to buy gas. And, although you do need to check the tire pressure occasionally and maintain your e-bike, it’s easier and less expensive than a car for sure!

And, you can do a lot of it at home with inexpensive tools such as a small air pump and Allen wrenches.

We hope these 16 reasons why electric bikes are popular have helped answer your questions about what they are good for. And, perhaps it has made the case for buying an e-bike more compelling than ever before!

18 Reasons You Should Buy an E-Bike Right Now

0

After hearing about the electric bike trend, you may be wondering whether an e-bike is something you want or need. I certainly had a lot of questions before buying!

So, before buying my first electric bike, I spent a lot of time researching the benefits of buying one. After all, they’re pretty expensive and I wanted to know that I was making a good decision. And I came up with 18 great reasons to buy one.

Not only will you have a lot of fun riding an e-bike, but you’ll also save money on driving a car and be able to go places you never could on a regular bike before, like up a huge hill and over challenging terrain. You’ll get regular exercise, help protect the environment, and overcome physical limitations.

By the end of this article, all your doubts will be wiped away when you realize what a great option electric bikes are to traditional bikes.

Find out the reasons you should buy an ebike… and why I love them!

What Are The Reasons You Should Buy an E-Bike Right Now?

Although some reasons for buying an e-bike will be more important to you than others, there are more than enough good reasons to help you make the decision to get one.

Check out all of the 18 reasons I found that helped me and my husband decide to buy an e-bike and why buying one right now is a good idea.

1. E-Bikes Go Fast!

You won’t believe how fast you can actually go on an electric bike. Most e-bikes today go 20mph just by pedaling, while others might go up to 28mph with a stronger motor.

Don’t think of this like a motorized vehicle, however. It doesn’t go anywhere near the speed of a motorcycle! However, it’s definitely faster than peddling regular bikes. On a regular bike, an average person would have to be going downhill to get to 20mph or more.

But an e-bike will get you going 20mph or more on a straight-away or riding uphill. This is thanks to the assistance of its motor, which will likely range from 250 Watts to 750 Watts.

How long will your e-bike motor last? Well, it depends.

2. They’re Easier to Ride Than Non-Electric Bikes

Not only do e-bikes let you ride fast, but you also won’t have to put forth as much effort to ride an e-bike. Just start pedaling and the motor will kick in, propelling you forward with less effort.

E-bikes easily get you moving with this “pedal-assist” feature. This is super beneficial because it helps riders spend more time on their bike. There’s no longer a reason to be afraid of going too far or getting too tired.

Want to know exactly how to ride an e-bike?

3. Your Electric Bike will Get You Up Every Hill

Here’s the truth… you most likely can’t ride a bike up a steep hill without getting overly exhausted or giving up. And it’s no fun having to push your bike the rest of the way up the hill. Or worse, you’ll probably just avoid even trying to get up a hill.

Unfortunately, this really limits where you can ride. I’ve had a really nice traditional bike for years that has barely been used because I couldn’t even get out of my neighborhood. And getting back home was even harder when I was already tired!

Now, with pedal assist, I can ride up every hill I need to. Sometimes I’ve even challenged myself to go up a really big hill just for fun.

From my point of view, this is one of the biggest reasons why you should buy an e-bike right now. You’ll soon be riding places you never thought you could.

Did you know you can even ride e-bikes WITHOUT pedaling? Take a look!

4. Buy an E-Bike Right Now for Exercise

What could be better than having fun while you exercise? Don’t listen to the naysayers who don’t understand how an electric bike works. They might tell you that riding e-bikes aren’t really exercising. But in truth, electric bikes have numerous mental health and physical health benefits.

But do you think they’re riding 20-40 miles on their bike in one shot? Probably not. Pedaling takes effort, even if you have a little help from the motor. You will just burn calories over perhaps 15-20+ miles of relaxed biking, rather than hard effort over 3-10 miles.

Riding e-bikes really is the best of both worlds… you get exercise, even when taking a leisurely ride, that’s fun and doesn’t make you feel like you want to fall flat on your face after doing it.

So, can you really get exercise on electric bikes?

5. One of the Top Reasons You Should Buy an E-Bike: They’re Cheaper Than a Car

You might be thinking that there’s no way you’re giving up your car, and I’m not suggesting you do. But once you start riding e-bikes, you’ll realize how easy it is to get to places you would’ve once gone to in your car.

Whether you ride your e-bike to a college campus, work, or the grocery store, you’ll save money in gas, maintenance, and wear and tear on your car. Since your e-bike battery just needs to be charged, you don’t have to buy gas or take your car in for maintenance as often due to less driving.

Although buying an electric bike is a big investment, spending $1500 on one will save you thousands of dollars. Your alternative? Buying a $5000 really old used car that could cost you as much as the e-bike the first time it needs repairs!

6. Electric Bikes Are Safer Than Regular Bikes

At first impression, many people might worry about the safety of an e-bike due to its motor and speed.

However, riding electric bikes is actually safer than riding a non-electric bike, at least once you know how to use the throttle. This is because you can quickly speed up and get yourself out of a dangerous situation.

This is especially true if you live or work in a big city or a highly congested area with a lot of traffic. You can accelerate at an intersection to go with the speed of traffic after having stopped at a light. This keeps you visible and gets you out of the intersection faster when other cars are speeding up rapidly. And intersections are a common place for accidents to happen.

Here’s another reason that e-bikes are safer than regular bikes that you probably wouldn’t think of. Because it’s electric, it continually pushes power to your attached light, making it brighter and stronger than the average battery-operated light on a regular bike.

7. E-Bikes are Better for the Environment

It’s hard not to focus on protecting the environment when the earth is at stake. However, even if you haven’t given thought to an e-bike’s environmental impact, know that it has far fewer negative implications than any motor vehicle or public transport.

Since they’re battery-powered, they don’t release potentially toxic gases into the air.

So, go green! Your electric bike will help the environment the more you ride it… and the less you drive your car.

8. New Laws Make Electric Bike Riding Legal

For so many years, electric bikes were simply misunderstood. Without ever having been on an e-bike, authorities were calling them “mopeds” and assuming they should only be ridden in bicycle traffic lanes.

Fortunately, new e-bike laws have just recently been written that recognize them as bicycles in many states. Now they’re classified based on their power level and allowed on trails and bike paths in many states and federal recreation areas.

Just make sure you check your state’s laws and the area you wish to ride in before assuming that it’s okay.

So, if you’ve thought about buying an e-bike in the past but didn’t because you couldn’t ride it where you wanted to, then you may be in for a surprise. This could be a huge reason why you should buy an e-bike right now!

9. You Can Ride One Even if You’re a Big Person

My e-bike has a 275 lb payload, as do most quality bikes. Further, there are electric bikes to fit every size rider. Most websites have size specifications on their sales page.

If they don’t, and you’re not an average size person, then I’d honestly skip even considering ordering that bike online.

There’s nothing more important than fitting comfortably on your electric bike. After all, you’ll be riding it long distances. If you feel like you’re a giraffe on a toy, then your feet won’t be placed properly on the pedals, making it harder to sustain pedaling.

Further, if you’re a taller person with relatively shorter arms, then you may find your torso is too far from the handles, which means you’ll have to lean over more.

The point is, make sure you find out the dimensions of your bike before buying. You can definitely find the correct size and weight requirements if you look closely.

Are you overweight? Find out if there’s an e-bike for you!

10. E-Bike Are For Short Riders Now Too

Yes, I had to put this reason for buying an electric bike all on its own. I’ve spent my life hearing the bogus “one-size-fits-all” statement. I’m barely 5’2″ and have attempted to drive many cars where I couldn’t safely reach the gas or brake pedals.

So, when purchasing an e-bike, the very first thing I considered was “Will I fit?” I also assumed I’d have trouble finding a bike that works for me. But here’s the good news… there are bikes for shorter riders!

For starters, find a bike that calls itself a “step-thru”. You’ll have no problem with a middle bar that’s too high to step over or that you have to jump off on… ouch!

Then look at the size specifications of each model to make sure your arms will comfortably reach the handlebars and your seat height can be adjusted. Getting a bike with adjustable handlebars is also a huge plus.

11. You Should Buy an E-Bike Right Now Because the New Generation Ones Are Better

E-bikes have evolved! Many companies that have been around a while have added amazing features to make riding even easier and more enjoyable.

Rad Power Bikes (where my husband and I got our bikes) have actually now created the 4th generation of some of their models, meaning that they are always improving them. Wouldn’t you rather buy a 4th generation model, that also has lots of reviews, than one you’ve never heard of before?

Plus, now bikes have powerful front lights, adjustable handlebars, as well as more powerful motors and batteries. And some bikes even fold up! So, there are a ton of new features to look at.

12. Now There Are Many E-Bike Models to Meet Your Needs

Further, you don’t have to choose from just a few different electric bikes. You can spend hours researching them online, trust me.

Besides choosing from different colors and styles, different bikes come with different options. So, you can truly choose the best electric bike for you. You don’t have to settle! A great way to get started is by looking at the type of electric bike that would be best for you: Folding electric bikes, fat tire bikes, electric mountain bikes, or even electric commuter bikes.

13. You Can Longer Rides and Go Farther

Electric bike batteries today are so powerful that they can take the average rider 22-50+ miles on a single charge.

Some can apparently go even further, but it’s unlikely you would need to. But there’s no doubt you can do a full-day outing on most e-bikes without worrying about their battery life.

This means that you can go out on back-country trails and even ride to other towns if you want to. No problem (unless you’re on a standard bike).

14. E-Bikes are Easy to Park

No matter where you are or where you go, you can park your electric bike. It’ll almost always be free to park and you can always find a space.

You might drive around a city block for 20 minutes trying to park your car. But an e-bike can often be pulled up and parked right in front of the building you’re going to.

So, not only can you save time (and not have to leave for work 20 minutes early), you won’t have to walk half a mile back to your car when it’s dark.

And, think about how nice it will be to drive right up to a popular park, lake, or beach, without hunting for a spot to park or paying parking fees.

15. You Can Insure an E-Bike

Really, you can! If you’re like me, one of the first things you’re thinking about when considering buying an electric bike is how to keep it safe.

I’m still finding it hard to believe, but you can actually buy insurance exclusively for your e-bike. Just search online for “how to insure an ebike” and you’ll find several listings.

Before buying separate insurance though, make sure to see what your current home and auto insurance offers if your bike was stolen.

16. You Can Ride Your Electric Bike in the Dirt

You don’t need to be a “dirt biker” to take your e-bike off-road. But you do need to have the right bike and tires.

Just like regular bikes, some e-bike models will be better for riding on the road, while some are made for the dirt.

So, if you run out and buy an electric bicycle right now, you definitely want to know what your bike’s main purpose for you will be. That being said, many bikes can drive nicely on the road as well as on a dirt path or in the sand.

Looking for an electric bike you can easily ride in the sand? Check out these top models.

17. You’ll Feel Better

I’m not a healthcare professional, but it’s long been known that exercise reduces stress. And cycling on your e-bike provides enough physical exertion to knock out stress.

And if you commute to and from work on your bike, you’ll get a daily dose of endorphin release, which is what makes you feel like you’re ready to tackle what comes next in the day.

Further, if you’re a senior citizen, you’ll get all of the above plus access to an easy and enjoyable way to get the daily exercise you need… without it being overly strenuous.

18. And the #1 Reason Why You Should Buy an E-Bike Right Now is: You’ll Have a Ton of Fun!

Okay, so perhaps I should’ve listed this as the number one reason for buying an electric bike today. But, sometimes you have to save the best for last.

Seriously though, you might decide to get an e-bike just for fun! I don’t think you’ll talk to anyone, even someone who primarily uses their bike for commuting, who doesn’t think that riding their bike is a thrill.

Why Are E-Bikes So Popular?

E-bikes have become really popular because of all of the benefits of riding one.

They allow access to the world of bicycling to so many people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to ride a bike due to lack of strength, age, or disability. Almost everyone, regardless of physical shape, can ride in a relaxed fashion and get where they need to go in a timely manner.

Further, electric bikes let strong, physically capable people go faster, farther, and have more fun!

What Should I Look for When Buying an Electric Bike?

First, consider your main reason for buying an e-bike. Do you want to commute to work or ride to take care of errands? Or is it for exercise or recreational purposes?

Once you know the answer to this question, you should look for the features that would make riding your new electric bike easy and enjoyable.

So, find an e-bike that’s easy to ride based on size and motor power, and goes as far as you’ll need it to on a battery charge.

Naturally, you’ll want to consider the cost of an e-bike as well. You can find a great bike to ride in the middle price range, one that has a strong company warranty and has gathered lots of valid user reviews over time.

Vvolt Alpha Belt Drive E-Bike Review: Pros and Cons

0

The Vvolt Alpha Electric Bike is a high-quality carbon belt drive e-bike designed for both urban commuting and leisurely rides. It features a lightweight aluminum frame, a powerful 350W motor, and a 375Wh battery that delivers up to 40 miles of range on a single charge.

I’ve tested and reviewed the Alpha S electric bike to determine its pros and cons, best features, and whether this belt-driven e-bike is worth the money.

Watch the video and read the article to see if you should buy the Vvolt Alpha.

Vvolt Alpha Review: Overview

The standout feature of the Vvolt Alpha Electric Bike is its Gates carbon belt drive system. This technology replaces traditional bike chains with a durable and low-maintenance belt that lasts longer and operates more quietly. The carbon belt drive is also less prone to rust and wear and tear than a traditional chain, making it a great option for riders looking for a low-maintenance and reliable e-bike.

Another advantage of the Vvolt Alpha’s carbon belt drive is that it provides a smooth and efficient ride. The belt drive delivers power directly from the motor to the rear wheel without needing a derailleur or chain tensioner. This means that there is less friction and energy loss, resulting in a more responsive and efficient ride.

In addition to its carbon belt drive, the Vvolt Alpha Electric Bike comes with a range of other features that make it an excellent choice for riders looking for a high-quality and reliable e-bike. Let’s take a closer look.

Gates Carbon Drive Belt Close Up

First Test Ride & First Impressions

Riding the Alpha S Step-Thru ebike that Vvolt sent me, I was immediately reminded of the feel of riding a regular bicycle. It’s light, nimble, and zippy, even with a smaller 350W Xplova rear hub motor. And I’ll admit that I experienced a feeling of accomplishment when I realized that I could pick it up all by myself, which isn’t the case with most electric bikes.

But, what I was most excited to get a look at was the carbon drive belt! And it doesn’t disappoint. Not only does it give the Alpha a clean and maintained look, but I can also touch it without getting grease all over my hands or pant legs.

Further, the carbon belt is incredibly quiet, as is the bike overall. So, I certainly don’t feel like I’m drawing attention to myself while riding.

After testing and reviewing, here are the Alpha’s pros and cons.

Vvolt Alpha Integrated Battery
Vvolt Alpha Integrated Battery

Pros of the Vvolt Alpha

  • It’s a Class 1 electric bike– So, you get 5 levels of pedal assistance that’ll take you up to a maximum speed of 20 mph. But the best thing about it being a Class 1 is that you can ride it almost anywhere regular bikes are allowed. Class 2 or 3 e-bikes are often restricted to riding in select locations due to their throttle and higher speed.
  • Less maintenance required– Thanks to the Gates carbon drive, you won’t have to clean or grease it as you would a chain drive. Also, you won’t lose efficiency due to a dirty chain, and you won’t end up with a grease mark on your leg. Plus, the Vvolt alpha’s carbon drive belt should last twice as long as a regular bike chain.
  • Range of up to 60 miles (90 km) on pedal assist level 1– Although you’ll generally only get around 40 miles range, you may get up to 60 miles when only riding on pedal assist level one. But, like any pedal-assist electric bike, you should expect to get fewer miles on higher assistance levels.
  • Hydraulic disc brakes– You’ll have great stopping power with the 160mm disc brake rotors that self-adjust as the brake pads are worn.
  • Lightweight– The Alpha or Alpha S weighs only 44-46 lbs, depending on the frame size. This makes it easy to hang on a bike rack or lift into a car.
  • Two frame sizes– Almost anyone can fit on this electric bike thanks to one size for riders 4’9”-5’8” and one for taller riders up to 6’1”.
  • A huge payload capacity of 440 lbs– However, Vvolt recommends a weight limit of 300 lbs without first making some wheel modifications.
  • Brand-name Kenda tires– These tires have very small knobs which are just enough to ride securely over gravel and packed dirt.
  • Easy-to-remove battery– The battery is easily removed from the top of the frame. Some e-bikes place the battery on the bottom of the frame, making it more difficult to remove.
  • Comes with an “Industry-leading 3-year warranty”– This is a huge benefit of the Vvolt brand itself. Plus, there are no mileage limitations and extra parts are stocked in local warehouses so your ebike can get fixed fast.
  • Two-step assembly– When Vvolt said it would come to my door 97% assembled, I honestly didn’t believe it. But the truth is, this Vvolt ebike required the least amount of unpacking I’ve EVER had to do. Plus, Vvolt has devised a clever way of helping you attach the front tire… so I did it by myself in about 20 minutes.
  • Affordable carbon drive electric bike– Gates carbon belt drive electric bikes are typically very expensive. But, the Alpha is competitively priced at $1399.
Alpha S Kenda Tires
Alpha S Kenda All-Terrain Tires

Cons of the Vvolt Alpha

  • No integrated headlight or taillight– They do give you battery-operated lights to attach. But an electric bike without “electricity” in the form of safety lights is a bit disappointing.
  • There’s no throttle– If you live in a hilly area, you might prefer to have one to help you get up steep hills. However, I have to admit that it’s much easier to get moving on this ebike because of its low weight. That’s why I don’t think that a lack of throttle is a dealbreaker for most people looking for an entry-level electric bike.
  • It’s a single-gear electric bike– If you want simple and you’re planning on using pedal assist as much as needed, then the Alpha may be the best electric bike with a belt drive for you.  However, if you’ll avoid using pedal assistance in order to get a better workout or to protect your battery life, then you might wish you had gears.
  • The Alpha S “step-thru” ebike isn’t so easy to step through– The step-over height is too high for my 5’1” body, and I expect it’ll be too high for other petite riders. But, since the frame was small, it was easy enough to swing my leg over the saddle.

Unboxing and Assembling

Unboxing the Vvolt Alpha was the easiest ebike to unpack… ever (well, as of this writing)! Just pull the electric bike out from the side of the box. Then keep the front fork upright in the foot of the box to continue unpacking.

Assembly was just as easy. Thanks to Vvolt’s creativity, you can then use the box to hold the front tire while you sit the frame of the e-bike directly onto it.

11 Best Electric Bikes With Belt Drive in 2023

0
Raleigh Grand Centros E-Bike is one of the best e-bikes with a belt drive

Why would you want a belt-driven e-bike when a chain-driven one is the most common?

A carbon belt offers significantly less maintenance than a standard chain drive while offering the same or better performance. Belt drives are cleaner, don’t require lubrication, and last much longer than chains. So they’re definitely worth considering if you’re in the market for a new electric bike.

The best belt-drive electric bikes for 2023 are:

  1. Ride1Up Roadster v2
  2. KBO Hurricane
  3. Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH
  4. Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 Step-Through
  5. Schindelhauer Heinrich Enviolo
  6. Riese & Muller Supercharger GT Rohloff
  7. Luna Cycle Fat BABE (Bad Ass Belt ebike)
  8. Stromer ST2
  9. TENWAYS CGO600
  10. VanMoof S3
  11. Vvolt Alpha

Ready to find out more about each of these models and which e-bike brand is right for you? I’ve gathered all of the stand-out details as well as some of the disadvantages.

You’re sure to find the best bike equipped with a Gates carbon drive that fits your lifestyle.

1. Ride1Up Roadster v2

The Ride1Up Roadster is by far the least expensive and sleekest of all of the belt drive ebikes. At a price of $1095, this 33 lbs super lightweight model is hard to compare to others. With a fully integrated battery, ultra-quiet motor, and simple design this single-speed is one of the best belt e-bikes for the value.

The Ride1Up Roadster single-speed commuter e-bike

Its powerful Class Three 350W (500W peak) geared hub motor can take you up to 24 mph with pedal assist and a range of up to 30 miles with its 36V 7.0 Ah Samsung battery (35e Cells).

Surprisingly, despite its simplicity, it can still handle a payload capacity of up to 300 lbs. Even though it comes at an affordable price, it boasts a 5-level LCD display and an ergonomic road saddle. Plus, the frame comes in two sizes, fitting riders from 5’8″ up to 6’3″.

The downside is that shorter riders under 5’8″ won’t be able to reach the ground comfortably.

While it may be lightweight and fast, it can actually handle light off-road riding with its mechanical disc brakes and gravel-friendly tires, if you choose the gravel bike option.

Truly the only other electric bike with a Gates carbon drive in this price range is the KBO Hurricane (read about it below to compare further).

KBO Hurricane Electric Bike
KBO Hurricane Electric Bike

2. KBO Hurricane

The KBO Hurricane has made it onto this list because it’s unique in the category of belt-driven electric bikes. The Hurricane is designed to be a “stealth” urban bike. Meaning that it’s made to be as sleek and stealthy as possible, with minimal signs to indicate that it’s electrically powered.

This is achieved by a very simple design, an integrated battery pack, and an integrated rear hub one-speed motor.

And, the Hurricane features no transmission because it’s a single-speed electric bike. However, it does have 3 power modes that determine how much pedal assist the rider is provided with.

This is one of the most well-priced e-bikes made to this high level of quality, as it only costs $1099.

The Hurricane is lightweight, equipped with a 345Wh Panasonic battery pack, and 350W hub motor, and has a range of 45+ miles.

This bicycle may seem very simple, but it’s a very capable electric road bike that is comfortable for almost every rider.

Red Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH with belt drive
Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH with Gates Belt Drive

3. Specialized Turbo Vado 5.0 IGH

Besides rocking a Gates Carbon Belt Drive, the Turbo Vado is unique in that it has advanced pedal technology not found in most other electric bikes.

The Como 5.0 internal geared rear hub motor allows you to predetermine your pedal cadence with its enviolo AUTOMATiQ stepless shifting. And because this system also uses a belt drive instead of a chain drive, you’ll get a smooth ride without messing with a chain or derailleur.

Thus, the Vado continuously adjusts itself to keep you pedaling at your preferred pace.

You’ll also get:

  • A 250W hub motor
  • Hydraulic brakes
  • A suspension seat post
  • DRYTECH Fenders
  • Rear rack with pannier mounts
  • Turbo System Lock
  • And a Garmin Radar available through the display

4. Specialized Turbo Como 4.0 Step-Through

With a 250W motor, hydraulic disc brakes, and three frame sizes to choose from, a relaxed, comfortable ride on the Turbo Como 4.0 is in your future.

The Turbo Como uses the same stepless shifting technology as the Vado, but one feature might make this the perfect e-bike for you. With a step-through frame, you can get on and off easily, whether you need to dismount quickly or simply find it more comfortable to do so.

Plus, it has upright seating that allows riders to be comfortable throughout the ride with less stress on your hands, shoulders, and back.

Another benefit of the Turbo Como is the included Turbo System Lock that disables the motor and activates an alarm when motion is detected.

Other bonuses include:

  • DRYTECH Fenders
  • LED headlight and taillight
  • Rear rack compatible with child seats
  • Capable of pulling a thru-axle trailer

5. Schindelhauer Heinrich Enviolo Electric Bike

The next bike on the list of best electric bikes with belt drive is the Heinrich Enviolo by Schindelhauer.

Schindelhauer is a German e-bike manufacturer that was started by two friends right after leaving university in 2008. This is important to note because their idea was to create electric bicycles with belt drives right from the very start.

This means that all Schindelhauer bikes are designed from the ground up to function perfectly with belt drives, and without having been later adapted as a belt drive e-bike. This results in every component being as optimized as possible.

One of their bikes, The Heinrich Enviolo or the Hannah Enviolo, if you would prefer the e-bike designed for women, is their top-of-the-line model.

It features 8-speed automatic stepless transmission, a powerful Performance Line motor from Bosch, a 500Wh Bosch PowerTube battery, an Enviolo rear hub gear system, and a Bosch Kiox full-color control panel display and control system.

The battery pack is integrated into its frame and is equipped with lights, mudguards, a pannier rack, and a kickstand. Another huge benefit is that this model comes in three different frame sizes to perfectly suit riders of any height.

The belt drives on these e-bikes are the Gates Carbon Drive. The bike’s frame is aluminum to keep the weight as low as possible, and it features hydraulic brakes to ensure maximum safety.

This electric bike is the first on the list, not necessarily because it tops the list in terms of power or performance, but because this is the best all-around e-bike on the market that features a belt drive system.

The Heinrich/Hannah by Schindelhauer is an urban cruiser with a ton of heart and excellent craftsmanship. It’s a well-designed and well-thought-out bike with plenty of features.

There’s only one real disadvantage… this model costs $5015 USD (5195 EURO). Other than the high price, this is the perfect urban e-bike.

Riese & Muller Supercharger with Belt Drive System
Riese & Muller Supercharger GT Rohloff with Belt Drive

6. Riese & Muller Supercharger GT Rohloff

The Supercharger GT Rohloff is described as a heavy-duty electric bike. It’s a rugged bike that is capable of handling almost any situation.

Riese & Muller is another German brand and they produce some of the most versatile electric bikes in the world.

The Supercharger is their flagship model, and it’s so named because of its extra-large battery capacity. It’s actually equipped with dual in-frame 500Wh Bosch battery packs, combining a total of 1000Wh of power and superb battery life! Dual batteries with 1250Wh are also now available!

This is significantly higher than most commercial electric bikes.

Additionally, the Supercharger features a 14-speed internal transmission system by Rohloff with a 1:5.6 gear ratio. This system allows the rider to change gears even while stopped. But it does also require the rider to stop pedaling to change gears, which can take some getting used to.

The stand-out features of this bike are the exceptionally large battery pack that affords it a 100-mile range, top speeds of over 50 miles per hour, heavy-duty tires and wheels, front wheel and seat suspension for extra ride comfort, two luggage racks, and high-end component quality.

However, there are some major drawbacks of the Supercharger… the e-bike’s 65-lb weight and the $9500+ price tag!

Otherwise, this ebike is perfect for all those who enjoy riding tours and long-distance adventures. It’s rugged both in looks and construction, and the all-terrain tires make it far more capable than most other e-bikes.

The Supercharger is equipped with a belt drive that is as tough as its other components.

Luna Cycle Fat BABE E-Bike
Luna Cycle Fat BABE E-Bike

7. Luna Cycle Fat BABE (Bad Ass Belt e-bike)

The Fat BABE by Luna Cycle is the sleekest and most understated fat e-bike on the market. However, the sleek looks and design are not an indication of performance.

This is among the quickest and most powerful fat e-bikes on the market. The Fat BABE is equipped with a Bafang M600 800W motor, a 48V 13.5ah Panasonic GA battery pack, and a 5-way internal Sturmey Archer RSX-RK5 gear hub.

All of these features are internally mounted but fully accessible for repairs and replacements, which means that you can be as rough as you want on the Fat BABE without fearing the difficulty of making repairs.

This electric bike features a Gates Carbon belt drive, which is very simple to maintain. Notorious for their rugged simplicity and effective power transference, these belt drives are more efficient than chain drives and require far less maintenance. Carbon belt drives also last significantly longer than chain drives, which just adds to this fat e-bikes toughness and versatility.

The Fat BABE is equipped with piston hydraulic disc brakes and 4-inch thick fat tires for all-terrain.

The full-spec Fat BABE has a starting cost of $2750 and can be upgraded with a full-color display and quieter drive.

8. Stromer ST2

The ST2 is one of the most well-equipped, modern, and efficient electric bikes on the market. This model is equipped with features that almost no others have and is the ideal choice for those who seek the most technological versatility from their commuter e-bike.

The ST2 is equipped with a low-maintenance and durable Gates carbon belt drive, which sets it apart from other e-bikes in the Stromer range.

It’s unique among the others on this list (and placed at number 4 in the ranking) due to its clever digital connectivity. The Stromer ST2 is equipped with wireless connectivity to the OMNI app, which allows the rider more control of their bike than any other.

The app provides the rider with the ability to make individual adjustments to the motor settings, track mileage and personal performance, and localize the bike via onboard GPS. It even allows the ST2 to be locked and unlocked automatically via Bluetooth.

All of this is done via the riders’ smartphone, and the system is intuitive and simple to use.

Further, the ST2 has a 75 – 110 mile range (depending on the battery life), a rear hub-mounted electric motor that offers pedal assist up to 28mph, and a fully customizable riding position.

One of the major advantages of this Swiss-made bike is that it is fully configurable. You’re able to select the exact features that they require and choose from the list of compatible parts provided by Stromer.

This means that you can customize the range, power, and feature specifications of your own Stromer ST2 before purchasing it. Very few electric bike manufacturers offer this feature, and it’s a major plus for the ST2 overall.

As the lowest-priced ST model begins at around $5700 MSRP, be prepared to make a substantial investment.
