Aventon Level 3 Ebike Review- 2025 High Tech Commuter Perfection?

If you’re eyeing an electric bike for commuting or long-distance riding , you probably want answers to these:

  • Is it comfortable for daily rides?
  • Does it have enough power for hills?
  • Can I trust the battery range to get me to work and back?
  • And most importantly: Can I protect my incredible new e-bike from thieves?

I’m Lisa at E-Biking Today and I’m answering all of these questions and more in the Aventon Level.3 E-Bike Review.

This is Aventon’s newest update to their popular commuter e-bike line, and it’s designed for people who want real-world usability, quality components, and advanced technology at a reasonable price. I loved the fact that I kept connected and protected!

Let’s start by checking out the 4 key benefits of the Aventon Level 3.

Key Benefits of the Aventon Level.3

✅ Smooth Power and Realistic Ride Feel

The Level.3 uses a 500W (864W peak) sustained rear hub motor with 60Nm of torque. What this means is that it’s powerful enough to flatten hills on your commute but tuned to feel natural and proportional to your pedaling. Conquering a steep hill was no problem in the Turbo mode!

My ride felt smooth and natural, thanks to the Double Sided Torque Sensor. Unlike cadence sensors that “guess” when to assist, the torque sensor responds to how hard you pedal—giving you an intuitive, car-like throttle response.

✅ Customizable Pedal Assist & Throttle

You get 3 Pedal Assist levels, Eco, Sport , and Turbo. But with Ride Tune Customization via the Aventon app, you can actually fine-tune how much assist each level gives you. There’s more on Ride Tune personalization coming up.

The left-hand thumb throttle offers a break from pedaling. It’s also perfect for quick takeoffs or that final uphill slog after a long workday. I zoomed up to 20mph in seconds.

✅ Comfort Focused and Adjustable

Aventon knows long-distance riders need comfort. The suspension fork with 80mm travel and lockout smoothed out potholes, curbs, and detours during my ride. The adjustable preload on the Aventon Suspension Seatpost (50mm travel) took the sting out of unexpected bumps, making a long ride more fun. Additionally, I found the adjustable stem to be essential, customizing the reach, and seated position (especially helpful with my short arms).

✅ Enhanced Tech & Theft Deterrence

There’s a bounty of upgraded tech features on the new Level 3. You’ll stay protected and connected with features like Remote Lock, Geofencing, and passcode protection for added peace of mind.  You can lock your e-bike and set geofence boundaries from the Aventon app.

I really loved that the electronic rear wheel lock prevented it from being rolled away. And I was blown away with Aventon’s new keyless battery design. Here’s an important tip: Don’t spend time looking for your lost keys… because there aren’t any!

Plus, the Aventon app allows real-time GPS tracking, 4G connectivity, and cloud sync that lets you monitor your stats on every ride. Then, Ride Tune helps you personalize your ride’s torque, power assistance, and pedal response. It’s all on one easy-to-view screen.

Additional Features

Here’s what else you get on the Level 3 electric bike.

  • Shimano Altus 8-Speed Drivetrain for easy commuting.
  • Tektro 180mm Hydraulic Disc Brakes, essential for quick stops in the city.
  • Kenda Kwick Seven-5 Sport 27.5 X 2.20 inch tires with a thru-axle front wheel, providing increased safety and improved ride.
I liked that these tires are commuter-focused and roll smoothy, yet are wide enough for comfort and good grip on a variety of terrain.
  • Built-in front and rear lights, turn signals, rear rack and attached fenders.

What You Need to Know Before You Buy

Before you pull the trigger on the Aventon Level.3, there are a few important things to consider. First, this ships as a Class 2, 20 mph maximum speed commuter e-bike. However, it can be unlocked to a Class 3 with a 28 mph top speed.

The Level is designed to fit riders from 4’11” to 6’1” with two frame options and two sizes. That’s a generous range, making it accessible for both petite 5’1” riders, like myself, and taller riders. I found the step-through version perfect for getting on and off easily. And, I adjusted the handlebars so I could sit upright and easily reach them. But you can leave them in low position for a more efficient ride if you’d like.

The bike weighs 67 lbs, which is typical for a fully equipped commuter ebike. But it’s something to keep in mind if you’ll be carrying it upstairs regularly or lifting it onto a bike rack. It supports a total weight limit of 300 lbs, including rider and cargo.

Power comes from a 733Wh removable keyless battery, offering up to 70 miles of range under ideal conditions. That’s 10 miles more than its predecessor, the Level.2. Real-world use will likely give you 40–50 miles depending on how much you use the throttle and higher pedal assist levels. Charging took me about 5 hours from empty to full.

Safety-wise, it’s UL certified for both the battery (UL 2271) and e-bike (UL 2849), giving peace of mind on quality and safety. It also offers IPX5 water resistance. This means it’s built to handle rainy commutes and splashes but not heavy downpours or pressurized spray.

Overall, the Level.3 offers practical features and commuter-friendly specs you should weigh against your specific needs—especially if you value comfort, smooth power delivery, and a realistic range.

Performance in Real-World Scenarios

Picture this:
You’re commuting 10 miles to work with a few hills. The torque sensor makes pedaling up those hills feel like riding on level ground—but still gives you the satisfaction of actually pedaling.

On flat streets, you’re gliding at 20 mph with throttle or light pedaling. The suspension fork and suspension seatpost keep the ride plush, while the Aventon saddle is firm but comfortable.

You won’t be worrying about range with typical daily commutes under 30 miles. For longer commutes and weekend rides, the 70-mile potential range becomes a bonus. Here’s the reality: After my first 22.2 mile test ride using a variation of throttle and all pedal assist levels, I still had 78% battery charge remaining. Thus, riding 70 miles on a single charge is definitely doable, depending on other factors like terrain, weather, and rider weight.

Pricing & Value

Both the Aventon Level.3 Step-Through and Step-Over are currently priced at $1,899. At this price point, it directly competes with models from other top brands, yet it offers more than most.

For example, the torque sensor, customizable assist via the Aventon app, and the inclusion of both suspension fork & seatpost give it an edge in ride quality and technology. This is especially helpful for long-distance commuters who prioritize a natural pedaling feel.

Final Verdict: Who is the Level.3 For?

If you’re looking for a comfortable, reliable, commuter-friendly e-bike that makes you feel like you’re gliding and adds security on top—the Aventon Level.3 stands out.

It’s designed for riders who:

  • Commute daily and want a smooth, natural ride
  • Value comfort upgrades (like the suspension fork and seatpost)
  • Need practical range without range anxiety (up to 70 miles is above average)
  • Appreciate app-based customization and added tech features (the Aventon App does it all and is superior to other ebike apps I’ve used).

It’s not for those who want a lightweight bike for easy carrying up stairs, or who prefer more aggressive off-road climbs. But for urban commuters, suburban explorers, and casual riders seeking quality and value, this hits the sweet spot.

Would I Recommend It?

As an electric bike reviewer who’s ridden countless models, I can say the Aventon Level.3 strikes a perfect balance between comfort, performance, and price. It’s not gimmicky. It’s not overpriced. It’s just a well-executed electric commuter bike that delivers on its promises. The truth is, the Level 3 gives a lot of e-bike and high-tech security for the money.

If you’re a commuter or recreational rider, the Aventon Level 3 e-bike is the one to check out. Make sure to watch the video for more info and enjoy your ride!
